Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Colorado Rapids: 10 Bold Predictions

Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy return to action on Saturday, Mar. 23 against Oscar Pareja’s Colorado Rapids at the Home Depot Center. Los Angeles are 1-1-0 (four points) and are third on in the MLS Western Conference after drawing 1-1 with Chivas USA. Colorado are also coming off a 1-1 draw, this time with Real Salt Lake.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT/10:30 p.m. ET and will be televised once again by the fine folks at Time Warner Cable SportsNet. Here are 10 Bold Predictions for the Galaxy vs. Rapids at Victoria Street.

1. A tough, physical game with plenty of hacking

Hey Colorado. See what Chivas did on Sunday against LA? That’s how you’re gonna have a chance on Saturday. Hack, hack, and hack some more. There will be fouls and cards in this match. Let’s get that part out of the way: over 40 fouls will be whistled and over four cards issued.

2. Robbie Keane will not get on the scoresheet

Sometimes, you have to take a few steps back in order to go several steps forward. That is the case with Robbie Keane. The Los Angeles Galaxy captain will not get a goal or an assist on Saturday. There is a possibility that he may be called on to represent the Republic of Ireland in 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualification play, so this Bold Prediction could be a home run, and a rare one at that.

3. Colorado strike first

For the first time in league play, Los Angeles will be forced to chase the game. And who is going to do the honors for the Rapids? Deshorn Brown caught some heat in the Rapids’ 1-1 draw with RSL and is tabbed by the View from Avalon to open up the scoring this contest.

4. Atiba Harris with a couple of assists

Atiba Harris is a journeyman that has been with many teams in MLS. On this stop, Harris will up his stock and be a game-change for the visitors. Harris will get two assists to pace the Rapids.

5. Jamie Smith will score for Colorado

Jamie Smith has been a bookend of sorts for the Rapids, and this season, Smith is hoping that he will be able to kickstart a run for Pareja’s crew. Smith score in the first half for Colorado.

6. Clint Irwin with at least four saves

Clint Irwin held his own against Real Salt Lake this past weekend and is expected by the View to start against the Los Angeles Galaxy. Irwin will make at least four saves on Saturday night at Victoria Street.

7. Hotstreak continues for Jack McBean

Forward Jack McBean has been on a tear recently, scoring in the last two competitive match for Los Angeles. McBean will come in as a super sub and score in the second half for the Galaxy.

8. Here comes Juninho

Juninho has yet to score for the Los Angeles Galaxy this season. Against Colorado, look for better set piece deliveries, leading to a couple of assists.

9. Jose Villareal scores for Los Angeles

Jose Villareal didn’t have a good game against Chivas USA on Sunday afternoon, but that should all change on Saturday night against Colorado. It’s all about placement and making good runs. Villareal will get on the scoresheet in the second half.

10. The match will be played to a draw

Goals, tackles, inspired play, an early lead, and a rally. This match between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Colorado Rapids will have it all, and it will end…in another draw, the Galaxy’s second of the season.

Los Angeles Galaxy 2, Colorado Rapids 2
