With any one of the original ten clubs in Major League Soccer, you would expect a plethora of history and shining stars for each team. The Los Angeles Galaxy is no exception.
One of their past players, Mike Magee, turned 41 on Tuesday. He has been etched in history for the team with six MLS Cup titles. The former IMG Soccer Academy footballer left behind a legacy of winning on both a team and a personal level.
Magee was one of those players who made an immediate impact on the team when they joined the LA Galaxy. It's very comparable to midfielder Marco Reus' tenure with the team.
The legacy of Mike Magee in MLS and with the LA Galaxy
The Elmhurst, Illinois native broke into MLS with the New York Red Bulls in 2003. In six seasons, Magee recorded 23 goals in 130 appearances across all competitions.
Weeks before the 2009 MLS regular season, the striker and attacking midfielder was traded to the LA Galaxy for a second round pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.
With the additional firepower of Magee, the Los Angeles Galaxy were able to make the MLS Cup Finals in 2009. Unfortunately, they lost to Real Salt Lake.

Two seasons later, the LA Galaxy returned to the MLS Cup Finals and beat the Houston Dynamo. The same result occurred the next year in 2012. The Galaxy became just the third team to win back-to-back titles.
Mid-season in 2013, Magee was traded to the Chicago Fire for the rights to Robbie Rogers. Despite missing the playoffs with his new team, the two-time MLS Cup champion earned the MVP Award in 2013.
The 2014 MLS season was not kind to the reigning MVP of the league. Surgery to correct a hip injury kept the talented player off the field for months. Furthermore, his former team, the LA Galaxy won another MLS Cup title.

Magee returned to the Western Conference in 2016, after the LA Galaxy won their fifth MLS Cup title. This would be his final season on the field as a player.
In 317 total games, and with three different MLS teams, Magee scored 70 goals across all competitions. He married his wife, Kristen Pizzolato, in 2012. They had a daughter in 2010 and then a son just five years later.
