The Los Angeles Galaxy haven't been able to figure out how to compete, much less beat, the majority of their opponents in 2025. Of their matches so far during the MLS regular season, Real Salt Lake, the Vancouver Whitecaps, D.C. United, and the Colorado Rapids are the only four teams to lose to the defending MLS Cup champions this year.
Eight teams had tied the Los Angeles Galaxy entering Saturday's match against the Seattle Sounders. The LA Galaxy did not lose either match in 2024 against the Sounders during the regular season or in the playoffs.

In 2025, the six-time MLS Cup winners did not fare too well against the Sounders before the weekend. A 4-0 clubbing at Dignity Health Sports Park was a sad reminder that this season has been one of the worst in franchise history. A 2-0 loss in the 2025 Leagues Cup Semifinals at home against Seattle further illustrated how much better forward Daniel Musovski and his team are than Gabriel Pec and the LA Galaxy.
A bevy of players were out for the LA Galaxy due to various injuries. Midfielder Marco Reus was ruled out with a lower-body injury. Fellow midfielder Lucas Sanabria joined him, Julian Aude, Mathi, as Mascimento, Emiro Garces, and Riqui Puig on the injury report.
The LA Galaxy did something this year on Saturday that they failed to do in the two previous meetings against their MLS Western Conference foe from the Pacific Northwest. They finally scored on the Seattle Sounders. They did so twice, earning them a second draw in a row this month.
How the first half went between LA Galaxy and the Seattle Sounders
As usual, the game did not start off in favor the visiting Los Angeles Galaxy. Goalkeeper Novak Micovic was scored on in the game's first five minutes. A defensive breakdown allowed Jesús Ferreira to find the back of the net for the Sounders.
Daniel Musovski added a second first-half Seattle goal in the 41st minute of play. Just when it looked like the LA Galaxy would be down 2-0 entering the half, an unlikely hero broke up the Sounders' third shutout effort against the Galaxy.
Captain and defender Maya Yoshida scored three minutes after Musovski did. Veteran midfielder Diego Fagundez recorded the assist on the goal. The LA Galaxy had cut the deficit in half ahead of the second period.
How the second half went for Los Angeles and Seattle
Surprisingly, the LA Galaxy had the better second half. Looking at the game stats, you would have thought the Sounders won this match.
They controlled the ball 58.4% of the game and fired off 18 shot attempts, three more than the LA Galaxy. Of those 18 shots, half of them were on target, including the two first-half goals for Seattle.
The Sounders did get more physical than the LA Galaxy in this game. The host team committed 11 fouls (four more than their guest), and were issued the only two yellow cards in the match.

What's next for the LA Galaxy this season?
A 1-0 victory coupled with a scoreless draw gave the LA Galaxy four points in last year's MLS Western Conference standings. Seattle gained four points against the Galaxy this year with similar results: a win, then a draw.
Mathematically, the defendings MLS champs aren't eliminated just yet. Just to have a chance, the Los Angeles Galaxy would have to win out on their last five matches. That's a tall order considering that the team has yet to win five games all season.
The LA Galaxy host FC Cincinnati, who is one of the better teams in the MLS Eastern Conference. This Evander's first season with Cincinnati. He's a player who has scored against the Galaxy with ease the last couple of years and could officially end their playoff hopes.
