The Los Angeles Blues will begin their third season in USL PRO with the intention of improvement from two tough seasons of finding their place in the third division of American soccer.
In December 2012, Warren Barton, a former Premier League defender and current analyst for Fox Soccer, joined the Blues as its new General Manager and Technical Director.
One of the most highly-rated defenders in England, Barton brings a wealth of experience to the LA Blues, with more than 450 appearances for such clubs as Wimbeldon, Newcastle United, Derby County and Queen Park Rangers as well as the England National Team.
“To say we are excited that Warren has joined the Blues is an understatement,” Ali Mansouri, the LA Blues Soccer Club’s Co-Founder and Executive Director told LABluesProSoccer.com. “He brings vast experience and knowledge to a relatively new organization like the Blues and above all, his determination to succeed will help us on and off the field.”
“I’m delighted to be involved with the LA Blues and consider it a great opportunity and professional challenge,” Barton added. “I have a lot of respect for the Blues organization and can’t wait to begin meeting the players this week toward getting our plans and preparations under way for the new season.”
One of the new acquisitions to the Blues is defender James Turner, who hails from UC Irvine. “The Blues are excited to have Jimmy join the team,” Barton told reporters. “As captain, he led UC-Irvine to their best record his senior year, and was part of the most successful four-year class in Irvine’s history.”
Los Angeles open up their season on Mar. 23 against Phoenix FC Wolves at Titan Stadium on the campus of California State University Fullerton. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT/10:30 p.m. ET.
