“And I’ll be…
Takin’ care of business every day
Takin’ care of business every way
I’ve been takin’ care of business, it’s all mine
Takin’ care of business and working overtime
-Bachman-Turner Overdrive, “Takin’ Care Of Business”
It was back to work for Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy on Monday, as the team began preseason training ahead of their opener with the Chicago Fire at the Home Depot Center on Mar. 3.
One player that was excited to return to action was former Houston Dynamo midfielder Colin Clark. A Re-Entry Draft selection, Clark will hope to perform up to expectations in 2013 with his new club.
For Clark, it was no surprise that he was destined for the Re-Entry Draft after a tough few years with the Orange.
“I kind of knew my standing going in. I wasn’t shocked,” Clark told LAGalaxy.com’s Larry Morgan. “It’s tough. Dom took a chance on me after back-to-back knee surgeries. I’m forever grateful to him to get the chance to play and to have a team have confidence in you after that.
“You move to a place and you want to make it a home away from home. Then after two years you’re kind of on the outs. It’s tough, but it put me in a better situation here.
“[Los Angeles are] probably the best organization in the league, one of the best teams probably in a long time to come through. It’s always nice to share the field with wonderful players. Now I can look at it from this side. Joining them was an honor.”
As for the rest of the team, a series of fitness tests took place for the first day. Preseason for the Los Angeles Galaxy will include eight exhibition/practice matches, all at the Home Depot Center.
“We’re going to be here the entire time,” said Arena to LAGalaxy.com’s Adam Serrano. “There might be something that comes up where we’re out of town for a day or two to play a game, but we’re going to here for the whole time which I think is good.”
Notable players that were not available for preseason were Robbie Keane (training with Tottenham Hotspur), Mike Magee (wisdom teeth removal), Todd Dunivant (honeymoon, will return Tuesday), Oscar Sorto and Jose Villarreal (U.S. Under-20’s), Landon Donovan (extended break), A.J. DeLaGarza and Omar Gonzalez (U.S. men’s national team).
