Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Houston Dynamo: Rating David Beckham’s Performance

So ends the final chapter in David Beckham’s long career with Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy.

In a glorious, storybook ending, Beckham ends his career with a 3-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo at the friendly confines of the cathedral of American soccer, Victoria Street, the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

It was one show for the fans that saw Los Angeles’s No. 23 pile up the stats on the Opta Chalkboard, which you can see by clicking here. On distribution, Beckham had a 67 percent pass success rate two headers, a 55 percent cross success rate, and two key passes. In terms on set pieces, Beckham has three free kick crosses and a successful throw-in.

Defensively, Beckham did his part winning two tackles and recording nine recoveries. Even at the age of 37, his work ethic and stamina allowed him to be a part of his team’s victory.

“I just hope people have enjoyed me playing here and watching me play for the Galaxy,” Beckham told MLSSoccer.com’s Scott French. “It’s what I always hope for when I step on the field, that people enjoy watching myself and watching the team I play for.

“My impact will be down to what people decide – other people. I think I had a successful time here, but it’s up to other people to decide that.”

“He’s been fantastic for this league, hasn’t he?” said forward Robbie Keane, who scored an insurance penalty conversion late into stoppage time. “He put the MLS on the map and made players like meself want to come over and play here because the league has grown massively. That’s down to David.”

“Twenty years from now, we’re going to look at this league and still talk about David Beckham as the one that helped turn us,” Arena added. “He’s had a phenomenal contribution, both on the field and off. It’s been incredible. For him to walk off the field today with another trophy is amazing.”

So here’s to you, David Robert Joseph Beckham, OBE. You have done you part in helping make Major League Soccer become what it is today. Head off into the sunset in a blaze of glory because the View from Avalon salutes your legacy. Cheers, mate.
