LA Galaxy: Gyasi Zardes and the USMNT Fall to Columbia in Third Place Game

LA Galaxy forward, Gyasi Zardes, and the United States Men’s National Team lost their third place game in the Copa America Centenario tournament against Columbia.

The United States run in the Copa America tournament has officially come to an end with their loss against Columbia in the third place game. The U.S. finished in fourth place as they lost 1-0 to the third ranked team in the world. It was a surprising success for the USMNT but it was still somewhat disappointing.

The USA came out strong as they won Group A during the Group stages and they even beat Ecuador to advance to the semi-finals. But Argentina was too much for them as Lionel Messsi and company defeated them 4-0. That forced them to face Columbia in the third place match.

The USMNT opened up the tournament against Columbia where they lost 2-0 and did not look to impressive. This match was much different as the U.S. looked threatening going forward and were unlucky not to find a goal in this one. The performance was an improvement and gave hope to future tournaments.

The LA Galaxy were represented well on the international stage as Gyasi Zardes had a great showing in the Copa America. He finished with one goal and one assist throughout the tournament. He played in all six matches and played the full 90 minutes in them as well. He was a mainstay in the starting XI and on the pitch.

You can take a look at the Highlights from the United States’ third place match against Columbia here:

Zardes created chances with his pace but also failed to complete a lot of opportunities on a few occasions. His club team has been struggling as of late without him and they will be happy to see him return to Los Angeles. His return to the LA Galaxy should be greeted with a out applause.

Zardes and the USMNT had a great tournament even though it ended on a  sour note. They still had great success and they will be looking forward to World Cup Qualifiers later this summer. The LA Galaxy will love to get Gyasi back as he has scored four total goals for his club this MLS season.
