The LA Galaxy Are Shutout For the Second Straight Match as They Lose to Toronto FC

The LA Galaxy were held scoreless for the second straight match as they were defeated by Toronto FC. Los Angeles were without many of their big name players.

The LA Galaxy were defeated by Toronto FC, 1-0, as their scoring struggles continued. The Galaxy are now 5-3-6 on the season with 21 total points. Toronto improved to 5-5-4 on the year with 19 total points. This was Toronto’s first win against Los Angeles since 2008.

There was very little star power in this game outside of Sebastian Giovinco and Nigel de Jong. The Galaxy were without Steven Gerrard (hamstring), Giovani dos Santos (quad), and Robbie Rogers (angle). Toronto was without Michael Bradley (Copa America) and Jozy Altidore (hamstring).

First Half:

There was no much action in the first half except for a few shots from Sebastian Lletget for the Galaxy. He had an open shot at goal in the 20th minute but his shot went wide. Lletget also had a shot on target in the 28th minute from a long-range shot from outside of the box.

Toronto FC’s goalkeeper, Clint Irwin, made a great save to parry the shot wide. Just after that, A.J. DeLaGarza committed a foul on Sebastian Giovinco that led him to receive a yellow card. The first half was scoreless as both sides could not find a goal.

Second Half:

Sebastian Giovinco was pushing hard against LA in the second half and he forced Brian Rowe to make a great save in the 60th minute with his shot on goal. Rowe made another great diving stop in the 64th minute off of a Giovinco free kick. A breakthrough came for Toronto in the 76th minute when Drew Moor scored the match winning goal off of a header than beat Rowe.

The Galaxy used two of their subs in the match. Emmanuel Boateng was the first sub in the 65th minute coming on for Alan Gordon. Jose Villarreal then entered the game for Mike Magee in the 77th minute. After Toronto scored, LA was unable to draw even with a goal of their own. They were shutout for the second straight MLS match.

This was a very disappointing result for the Galaxy and they will now look to bounce back in their next match against the Colorado Rapids on June 22nd. They will return to home to the StubHub Center in that game. The team has struggled without their star players recently.
