Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy will have to do without the services of Landon Donovan, Robbie Keane and Omar Gonzalez when they take on Oscar Pareja’s Colorado Rapids on Saturday, Sept. 7 at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. Los Angeles are coming off a massive 3-0 shutout victory over the San Jose Earthquakes and will look to build on their result this weekend.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT/10:30 p.m. ET and will be televised by Time Warner Cable Sportsnet and Time Warner Cable Deportes. Here are 10 Bold Predictions for this Saturday’s match between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Colorado Rapids.
1. No goals in the first half
This will be a tense, testy first half of play, with both teams engaged in a ball possession battle. The View from Avalon calls for a scoreless first half as a result.
2. Clint Irwin with at least four saves
Big matches call for big performances from your goalkeepers and Clint Irwin fits the bill. Irwin will make at least four saves to help the cause of the Rapids.
3. Brian Rowe with at least five saves
The logical choice for Bruce Arena is to send out Brian Rowe to do some work in goal with Jaime Penedo also summoned to international duty. Rowe has come up big before and he will come up big again with at least five saves on the night.
4. Edson Buddle will score for Colorado
Edson Buddle is close to making his own history by scoring 100 career goals in Major League Soccer. This season, Buddle has four goals to his credit and will look to add more on Saturday.
5. Also on goal for the Rapids…Deshorn Brown
This season, Deshorn Brown has seven goals and four assists to lead Colorado. A clinical finisher, Brown will make it eight goals for the year this weekend against Los Angeles.
6. Chris Klute with two assists
Colorado’s top assists leader is Chris Klute, who leads the Rapids with seven assists in 2013. On Saturday, the Rapids’ top provider will work his magic with a couple of assists to up his total to nine.
7. Marcelo Sarvas on goal for LA
This season, Marcelo Sarvas has been on the money for the Galaxy, with four goals and six assists. Sarvas will look to add two assists and a goal on Saturday against Colorado.
8. Gyasi Zardes scores for the Galaxy
Gyasi Zardes has taken more shots for the Galaxy than any other player with 58. On Saturday, all that shooting will pay off, as he delivers in the second half late for LA.
9. At least 20 fouls, under four cards
This will be a free-flowing game, with at least 20 fouls whistled and under four cards of any color issued. If there is any stoppage of play, it’s for something reckless. The usual. Now this.
10. The match will end in a draw
In spite of losing its top three designated players, the depth of the Los Angeles Galaxy will be enough to force a well-fought draw with the Colorado Rapids. Can you imagine how things would have been if the international calendar didn’t take away LA’s three stars? Yes?
