2013 USL Pro Power Rankings: Week 15

Leigh Cowlishaw’s Richmond Kickers are in fine form this season, having swept the Los Angeles Blues this weekend to remain at the top of the USL Pro Power Rankings. Orlando City remain second despite winning their match this weekend. Lagging at the bottom is Antigua Barracuda FC, who could be looking at a winless season.

Let’s take a look at the USL Pro Power Rankings this week on the View from Avalon.

1. Richmond Kickers

Leigh Cowlishaw’s Richmond Kickers remain number one this week after earning four out of six points. On Friday, they drew 2-2 with Phoenix FC Wolves, 2-2, on goals from William Yomby (67′) and Shane Johnson (90′). On Saturday, they rallied to beat the Los Angeles Blues, 2-1, at Titan Stadium on the campus of California State University, Fullerton in Fullerton, Calif. Richard Ownby (76′) and David Bulow (86′) scored for the Kickers.

Richmond return to action with a couple of matches this week. On Jul. 23, they face the Vancouver Whitecaps Reserves at Thunderbird Stadium on the campus of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. On July 28, they host VSI Tampa Bay FC at City Stadium in Richmond, Va. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET.

2. Orlando City

After a scoreless draw against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Wednesday, Adrian Heath’s Orlando City mowed down the Harrisburg City Islanders, 3-1, on Saturday at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla. Jean Alexandre scored a brace for the Lions, while Dennis Chin added some insurance.

Orlando City are off this week and will return to action on Aug. 3 against the Riverhounds at home. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. On Aug. 4, they face VSI Tampa Bay FC at Plant City Stadium in Plant City, Fla. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

3. Charleston Battery

Michael Anhaeuser’s Charleston Battery shut out the Dayton Dutch Lions at Blackbaud Stadium thanks to Nicki Paterson’s heroics in the 60th minute. Paterson and the Battery return to action with a couple of matches. On Jul. 24, they face Phoenix FC Wolves at home. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. On Jul. 27, the home stand continues with a match against the Los Angeles Blues. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

4. Charlotte Eagles

Following a scoreless draw with the Dayton Dutch Lions at the Queens Sports Comples, Mark Steffens’s Charlotte Eagles will look to get back on winning terms with a couple of matches this week. On Jul. 24, they host the Los Angeles Blues. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. On Jul. 27, the home stadn continues with a match against Phoenix FC Wolves. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

5. Pittsburgh Riverhounds

Justin Evans’s Pittsburgh Riverhounds opened the week with a scoreless draw against Orlando City on Wednesday at Highmark Stadium. However, they were able to bounce back an defeat the Wilmington Hammerheads at home, 2-1, on Sunday. Mike Seth (52′) and Matt Dallman (79′) scored for the Riverhounds, who continue their season on Jul. 27 against the Toronto FC Reserves at BMO Field in Toronto, Ont. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

6. Los Angeles Blues

Despite a fifth-minute goal from Matt Fondy, Daryoush Yazdani’s Los Angeles Blues saw their win streak end in the form of a 2-1 defeat to the Richmond Kickers at Titan Stadium.

On Jul. 24, the Blues face the Charlotte Eagles at the Queens Sports Complex in Charlotte, N.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET. On Jul. 27, the road trip continues with a match against the Charleston Battery at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. PT/7:30 p.m. ET.

7. Dayton Dutch Lions

Ivar van Dinteren’s Dayton Dutch Lions were shut out by the Charleston Battery 1-0 on Friday at Blackbaud Stadium and were held to a scoreless draw by the Charlotte Eagles at the Queens Sports Complex. Dayton travel to the Skyline Sports Complex on Jul. 24 to clash with the Harrisburg City Islanders. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. On Jul. 26, the Dutch Lions host Antigua Barracuda FC at Beavercreek High School in Beavercreek, Ohio. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

8. Harrisburg City Islanders

Bill Becher’s Harrisburg City Islanders shut out VSI Tampa Bay FC, 2-0 at Plant City Stadium on Friday to open the week. Goalscorers for Harrisburg were not available on USLSoccer.com at the time this blog entry was published. Lucky Mkosana scored for Harrisburg on Saturday against Orlando City, but the City Islanders fell on the road, 3-1.

Harrisburg’s campaign continues on Jul. 24 with a match against the Dayton Dutch Lions at the Skyline Sports Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

9. Wilmington Hammerheads

Following a scoreless draw with the Rochester Rhinos at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, N.Y. on Friday, David Irving’s Wilmington Hammerheads fell to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, 2-1, at Highmark Stadium on Sunday. Kyle Greig scored in the 72nd minute for Wilmington, who return to action on Jul. 26 against VSI Tampa Bay FC at Legion Stadium in Wilmington, N.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

10. Phoenix FC Wolves

A Thomas Ramos brace in the 23rd and 45th minutes gave David Robertson’s Phoenix FC Wolves a 2-2 draw with the Richmond Kickers at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz. Phoenix return to action with a couple of matches. On Jul. 24, they face the Charleston Battery at Blackbaud Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. PT/7:30 p.m. ET. On Jul. 27, the Wolves travel to the Queens Sports Complex to face the Charlotte Eagles. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET.

11. Rochester Rhinos

Jesse Myers’s Rochester Rhinos had a couple of scoreless draws against the Wilmington Hammerheads on Friday at Sahlen’s Stadium and against the Montreal Impact Reserves on Sunday at Stade Saputo in Montreal, Que. Rochester return home to host Antigua Barracuda FC on Jul. 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET.

12. VSI Tampa Bay FC

Matt Weston’s VSI Tampa Bay FC were shut out 2-0 by the Harrisburg City Islanders and will look to rebound with a couple of matches this week. On Friday, VSI travels to Legion Stadium to take on the Wilmington Hammerheads. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. On Jul. 28, they face the Richmond Kickers at City Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET.

13. Antigua Barracuda FC

The losing streak for Antigua Barracuda FC has been so strong that a coaching change had taken place. Adrian Whitbread is now the manager of the Barracudas, whose losing streak continued in the form of a 6-0 thrashing by the San Jose Earthquakes Reserves at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco, Calif.

Antigua continue their season with three matches this week First, they are up against the FC Dallas Reserves on Jul. 23. Kickoff at FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco, Tex. is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. On Jul. 26, they travel to Beavercreek High School to face the Dayton Dutch Lions. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Then, on Jul. 28, they travel to Sahlen’s Stadium to face the Rochester Rhinos. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET.
