Dejan Joveljić explains LA Galaxy's winning mentality

In the recent showdown against Sporting Kansas City, Dejan Joveljić emerged as a key figure in unraveling the winning mindset of LA Galaxy.
Despite falling behind 2-0, the Serbian striker, alongside his teammates, orchestrated a remarkable comeback, securing a 3-2 victory at Children’s Mercy Park on Saturday night.
This win not only marked the team's second triumph of the season but also showcased their unbeaten streak in five games, propelling them to the second spot in the Western Conference of the MLS, a feat they hadn't achieved since their title-winning campaign in 2014.
Joveljić's pivotal role in this resurgence extends beyond his goal-scoring prowess. By equaling Brian McBride's 1998 record, he underscored the relentless determination coursing through the Galaxy ranks.
McBride's feat, comprising five goals in the first five matches, serves as a benchmark that Joveljić now eyes to surpass, potentially etching his name alongside the likes of Jaime Moreno, the sole player in the league's history to net in six consecutive games during the 1997 season.
Reflecting on his performance, Joveljić emphasized the shift in mentality within the team. Despite his goal of leveling the score, he noted a distinct lack of celebration among his teammates, indicating a hunger for more. Such introspection encapsulates the evolving ethos driving LA Galaxy this season, an ethos rooted in a relentless pursuit of victory.
Dejan Joveljić explains LA Galaxy's winning mentality
"This year is different, and there's a great energy," remarked Joveljić. "When I scored my goal, the team didn't celebrate because we were tied. It's a different mentality this year, and since I arrived, it's our first win playing in Kansas City."
In essence, Joveljić's sentiments echo the collective mindset instilled within the Galaxy ranks – a mentality fueled by resilience, ambition, and an unwavering hunger for success.
As they march forward, Joveljić remains resolute in his mission: "My job is to score. I always think about that and how I can help the team. If we keep playing like this and creating opportunities for me, then I can score many more." With each game, LA Galaxy continues to exemplify a winning mentality that transcends mere goals on the pitch, shaping them into formidable contenders in the MLS landscape.
