Los Angeles Galaxy Ins and Outs: February 17, 2013

Yes, folks, Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan will be back. Donovan will be coming back to the team on the last week of March. Start the countdown.

“After a series of collaborative discussions between Landon, his representative and our key club leaders, we have agreed to allow Landon to remain on an extended leave of absence and return to training with the team during the final week of March,” Galaxy General Manager and Head Coach Bruce Arena told LAGalaxy.com. “We understand this arrangement is not ideal, but we are confident it will allow Landon the time he needs to be both mentally and physically prepared for the upcoming season.

“We remain focused on our preparation for the start of the 2013 season and look forward to Landon rejoining us next month.”

Meanwhile, the Galaxy played to a scoreless draw with K-League side Gangwon FC and discovered a new dimension to their style of play.

“They were pretty organized and really fit and I thought that they put good pressure on us,” Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez told LAGalaxy.com’s Adam Serrano. “It’s good to get competition from another country to test us in a different way and I thought we did well on the day to get the draw, but we had a couple chances to get goals and they had one chance.

“At the end of the day, it’s not too bad.”

“Any time that you play and see different things it helps. In our league, there is one style of play and it’s not similar to the way that [Gangwon] plays at all,” added midfielder Mike Magee. “But it definitely helps because there are going to be games where we’re going to be chasing or on the road and that was definitely what we were doing.”
