Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Isidro Metapan: 10 Bold Predictions

Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy are forced to pick up the pieces when they face Isidro Metapan of Metapan, El Salvador on Wednesday, Sept. 18 in CONCACAF Champions League at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. The Galaxy pulled off an uninspiring performance on the road in Washington, D.C. in the form of a 2-2 draw with D.C. United on Saturday at RFK Stadium.

Metapan are coming off a scoreless draw with Cartagines on Aug. 27 at Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in San Jose, Costa Rica. If Metapan fail to get all three points, you can consider Los Caleros eliminated from winning Group 8 of the CCL Group Stage.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET and will be televised by FOX Sports 1. Here are 10 Bold Predictions for Wednesday night’s important showdown between the Galaxy and Metapan.

1. The first team will start against Metapan

It will be all hands on deck for this match for this contest between the Galaxy and Metapan. Bruce Arena is expected, by the View, to start the first team against Los Caleros because of the importance of this contest.

2. Robbie Keane will score a brace

Robbie Keane scored a brace in the 67th minute and the third minute of stoppage time against C.S. Cartagines and Los Angeles, and will do so once again against Metapan.

3. Marcelo Sarvas with a goal and an assist

The pressure is on Marcelo Sarvas to deliver against a team from El Salvador on the brink of elimination. And he will deliver with a goal and an assist.

4. A more consistent performance from Kofi Opare

Kofi Opare could get the start on Wednesday against Metapan. He started two weekends ago against Colorado and was responsible for conceding a match-winner to Edson Buddle. Opare will be smart to not let that happen again.

5. No goals in the first half

The match between the Galaxy and Cartagines was scoreless after 45 minutes and it should be the same case again on Wednesday against Metapan. There will be no goals in the first half.

6. Nicolas Munoz continues his hot streak

Nicolas Munoz is one of Metapan’s top goalscorers, and he will score against the Los Angeles Galaxy this week. Munoz was one of two goalscorers in the Aug. 8 match between Metapan and Cartagines at Estadio Cuscatlan in San Salvador, El Salvador.

7. No goals or assists for Gyasi Zardes

The View from Avalon looks down on players who do nothing but steal livings playing football when they contribute little to the team. One of them is midfielder Gyasi Zardes. Despite playing out of position, Zardes needed to step up his game against D.C. United and failed to do so. Because of this, The View from Avalon boldly predicts that there will be no goals or assists for Zardes against Metapan.

8. Jaime Penedo with at least five saves

Jaime Penedo will be facing a desperate Metapan team that will go direct with their attack for the full 90 minutes. Penedo will make at least five saves in this match.

9. At least 25 fouls, under four cards

This will be a fast, free-flowing match with some shady refereeing. This is CONCACAF, after all. There will be at least 25 fouls whistled and under four cards issued of any color.

10. Los Angeles continues to home-cook

The Los Angeles Galaxy should be able to deliver and bounce back from their horrid display against D.C. United with a victory against Isidro Metapan. That win is important, because the next opponent on the schedule after that…is the Seattle Sounders.

Los Angeles Galaxy 3, Isidro Metapan 1
