On July 30, it was reported that the LA Galaxy are looking to bring in Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig to bolster its midfield. The 23-year-old has had trouble finding the field in Barcelona, and a trip to LA could be perfect for both parties. The Galaxy sit eighth in the Western Conference, and are desperate when it comes to the midfield, and an every-game role could be exactly what Puig needs to get his career back on track.

The Barcelona midfielder was once seen as the next man in line at Camp Nou, but a crowded midfield and sub-par play has pushed him out. In four seasons at Barcelona, Puig started just 11 matches and played a total of 1,445 minutes. That's not a lot of time to make an impression.

The Galaxy have had issues in its midfield all season, and even brought in Gastón Brugman to address it, but there is still work to be done. Puig could come in and make an immediate impact in the Galaxy's below average midfield.

In 21/22, Puig had 23 shot-creating actions in just 559 minutes. For reference, ten players on the Galaxy have had at least 23 SCAs, but they have all played at least 991 minutes. In that same time-frame, Puig completed 91.4% of his passes. That number would be the highest on the Galaxy. With an everyday role, Puig could easily build on that and improve the midfield play.

Riqui Puig could sign for the LA Galaxy before the end of the year

With MLS Cup dreams, it would make sense for the Galaxy to go all-in on Puig. If LA comes away with the 23-year-old midfielder, they automatically become one of the top contenders in the MLS.

Puig, Brugman, Dejan Joveljić, Chicharito, Douglas Costa and others is easily one of the most talented and deep teams in the entire MLS. Expect the eighth place Galaxy to keep pushing and attempting to bring Puig to Los Angeles.
