LA Galaxy pursues their sixth MLS Cup title
Having secured a second-place finish in the Western Conference with a total of 64 points during the regular season, the LA Galaxy enters the playoffs as one of the clear favorites.
Their First Round series, a best-of-three matchup, kicks off Saturday night at home against the seventh-seeded Colorado Rapids.
According to MLS, midfielder Mark Delgado said:
"There’s always an expectation when you’re with LA Galaxy, given the club’s rich history. However, we put even more pressure on ourselves due to the team’s success this year and the potential of how good we can be."

The narrative of LA Galaxy’s 2024 season revolves heavily around its formidable attack. The franchise players, Gabriel Pec and Joseph Paintsil joined the squad last winter, complementing Riqui Puig and Dejan Joveljic.
Together, this dynamic quartet amassed a remarkable total of 54 goals and 45 assists during the regular season. In the summer, the Galaxy added German national team icon Marco Reus, further enhancing their firepower, leading to a total of 69 goals scored—third-best in the league.
Head coach Greg Vanney said:
"I’m very pleased with the group, given the changes we made earlier this year, where we were, and the challenges we faced last season. We rebuilt the team in a way. With two new franchise players and some important new positions, witnessing this group come together and win 19 matches is incredible."
After a disappointing Decision Day, where they fell 2-1 to Houston Dynamo FC, the Galaxy ceded the top spot in the conference to LAFC. However, that setback may turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
Should the Galaxy triumph over Colorado, they would face either Real Salt Lake or Minnesota United FC, teams they have not lost to this season, before potentially meeting LAFC in the Western Conference final in a renewed edition of 'El Tráfico.'
Regardless of their upcoming opponents, the LA Galaxy are hopeful that 2024 will be the season that ends their title drought.
Coach Greg Vanney emphasizes that the LA Galaxy is not merely satisfied with qualifying for the playoffs. Instead, he expresses confidence in the team's potential to compete for the championship title.
With the playoffs approaching, the Los Angeles Galaxy are poised to reclaim their place at the top of MLS, ready to add another trophy to their illustrious history.
