Riqui Puig, the talented Catalan midfielder currently making waves with LA Galaxy, is reportedly contemplating a return to La Liga.
Now in his third season with the Galaxy, Puig has firmly established himself as a key player since joining the club in the summer of 2022.
His adaptability and skill have allowed him to thrive in MLS, where he has become one of the league's standout midfielders. With his impressive performances, Puig has consistently demonstrated his value on the field, ranking among the top players in the league.
Big Spanish club interested in signing LA Galaxy superstar
According to Gol Digital, sources close to Puig have indicated that despite his strong performance with LA Galaxy, the former FC Barcelona player harbors ambitions to rejoin the Spanish league, potentially with Valencia CF.
However, at just 25 years old, Puig appears to be reevaluating his options. His desire to represent the senior Spanish national team remains a driving force behind his ambitions, and a return to Europe may be the next step in his career.
From a sporting perspective, signing Puig would be a great move for Valencia CF. The midfielder has showcased exceptional versatility, comfortably playing various roles in the midfield, including as a central midfielder (6 and 8), attacking midfielder, and even as a winger.
His skill set aligns perfectly with the tactical framework employed by Valencia's coach, Ruben Baraja. Puig’s versatility in playing various positions would definitely boost Valencia’s game and overall approach.
Moreover, acquiring a player of Puig’s caliber would attract the attention of American fans, further broadening Valencia's fanbase in the United States. However, financial considerations present a significant challenge. Puig's contract with LA Galaxy runs until 2027, and the club is unlikely to part with him without substantial compensation.
Currently valued at around €15 million, Puig’s situation is complicated by his contract, which still has two years remaining after the summer of 2025. Any club seeking to secure his services must invest at least €20 million, making such a deal financially demanding for Valencia.
Interestingly, Girona FC appears willing to meet the financial requirements set by LA Galaxy. The club is optimistic about advancing to the knockout stages of the Champions League, with matches scheduled after the winter transfer window of 2025.
Girona's sporting director, Quique Carcel, plans to submit an offer in January, aligning with the start of a new MLS season. The proposed bid is expected to range between €15 million and €20 million.
