In 2023, the Los Angeles Galaxy appeared as though they were allergic from wins. The team that season limped through the regular season and won just eight games.

The Galaxy added another year to their longest MLS Cup drought as they had not made it to the finals since 2014. Once the Western Conference juggernauts make it that far though, they are 6-4 overall and 5-1 in their last six title games.

It was in 2012 when MLS saw the last back-to-back champions. DC United did it and the Houston Dynamo were second. The Los Angeles Galaxy defeated them in 2011 and 2012 to be the third and latest team to accomplish that feat.

Major League Soccer analysts have released predictions on how each team will fare in 2025. It appears that no one has the LA Galaxy finishing #1 or #2 in the Western Conference.

However, everyone who chimed in, including former Galaxy player Sacha Kjestan, has the team finishing 3rd, 4th or 5th. This means that the vast majority of soccer reporters see the LA Galaxy as a lock for the playoffs and potentially with home field advantage in the first round.

With that being said, here are a list of predictions for the Los Angeles Galaxy's upcoming 2025 MLS season. It will be the league's 30th regular season, as well.

How will the LA Galaxy finish in the regular season?

Taking into consideration the injuries to Riqui Puig and Joseph Paintsil, the Los Angeles Galaxy are not as strong offensively. To further complicate matters, the team already has traded Dejan Joveljic to another Western Conference foe, Sporting Kansas City.

Last season, the LA Galaxy were only a goal or a tie away from earning the Western Conference's top seed. Instead, they lost the tie-break to their rival, LAFC, as they had one upped the Galaxy in terms of goal differential.

The team elected to trade midfielders Gaston Brugman and Marky Delgado. Young defender Jalen Neal was also shipped out. A number of newcomers have also been brought in for the LA Galaxy.

In terms of the depth chart, the defense and midfield are the lines that primarily have seen the additions. Mathias Jorgensen (aka Zanka) was signed this winter, as well as fellow-defender Ascel Essengue.

Both Maya Yoshida and Eriq Zavaleta were re-signed by the LA Galaxy, too. MidfielderElijah Wydner came from Louisville City FC. He is joined by midfielder Sean Davis from Nashville SC and Christian Ramirez from the Columbus Crew.

Greg Vanney, the head coach of the Los Angeles Galaxy, has won two MLS Cup titles. He is highly trusted with the current roster by Will Kuntz. The generel manager of the Galaxy has earned the reputation for making aggressive moves to better the team.

Thus, this team may not finish at the very top of the Western Conference. However, it would take a catastrophic nightmare to prevent the LA Galaxy from returning to the MLS Playoffs.

"When things aren’t going well, different is good. There’s a new energy, a new buzz. It’s just a different feel and a different culture."
Dan Beckerman, President & CEO of AEG

Gabriel Pec showed he has MVP potential. After all, he is the 2024 Newcomer of the Year. Fellow newcomer from last year, Joseph Paintsil, is recovering from a leg injury.

As long as midfielder Marco Reus can stay healthy and contribute at a high level, the LA Galaxy can withstand until Puig and Paintsil both return at some point this season.

The 2022 MLS Cup MVP is still the starting goalkeeper for the Los Angeles Galaxy. He posted a number of shutouts in the regular season, including two in the postseason.

Prediction: This time, a tie-break works in favor of the LA Galaxy. They finish with the same amount of points in the standings but a better goal differential to be third place out West. Their predicted record is 15-8-11. Still more wins than losses, this is enough to extend the LA Galaxy's season into mid October, if not, later..

While the playoffs are almost a shoe-in for the Los Angeles Galaxy, the MLS Cup Finals are not. LAFC, the Seattle Sounders and others look to prevent the six-time champions from repeating, again.

We predict that the LA Galaxy have another deep playoff run. However, not as deep as they did in 2024. The LA Galaxy lose in the MLS Western Conference Finals.
