Joseph Paintsil and the Los Angeles Galaxy won convincingly, 5-2, against Club Tijuana on Thursday night. The Ghana native scored twice and recorded an assist. His three goal contributions were more than enough to give the 2024 MLS Cup champions a strong win in Phase One of the 2025 Leagues Cup.

Last year, the LA Galaxy did not fare too well in the League Cup. They went 1-1-1 and were ousted thanks to a 3-1 loss to the Seattle Sounders. That same MLS Western Conference foe dismantled the LA Galaxy's next opponent, 7-0, last week.

Who should the LA Galaxy be aware of on Cruz Azul?

At 1-2-0 and 5th in Mexican Liga BBVA MX, Cruz Azul should play better than their last outing. In their first three games this season, Ángel Sepúlveda has scored four times and Carlos Rodríguez has twice. José Paradela leads his team in assists with three.

The LA Galaxy used a 4-3-3 formation against Club Tijuana. That worked well for them on Thursday night. However, the Sounders used a 4-2-3-1 formation to crush Cruz Azul. The Galaxy have utilized the 4-2-3-1 formation quite well over the years, including the 2024 MLS Cup Finals.

Joseph Paintsil has two of the LA Galaxy's five goals in League Cup play so far. Look for him to be involved in the offense again with either adding another score or an assist.

How to watch the LA Galaxy vs. Cruz Azul League Cup match?

Cruz Azul comes to Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, on Sunday night. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. (PT) and 10:30 p.m. (ET) on Sunday. The game is available on MLS Season Pass.

Another dominating win would put the LA Galaxy in a great position to win their group during Phase One. Their third and final game is on Thursday against Santos.
