Major League Soccer (MLS) announced Friday that it has fined the LA Galaxy $100,000 and will put the club's supporter management under league supervision. This comes after what’s being called “serious misconduct” by fans during the Galaxy’s heated match against LAFC at the Rose Bowl on July 4.

The chaos erupted in the second half when fans in the Galaxy supporters’ section decided to light multiple flares, a clear violation of safety protocols, according to the league.

“Supporter privileges for all LA Galaxy supporter groups, inclusive of home and away matches, are indefinitely suspended pending the completion of MLS and the LA Galaxy’s comprehensive review,” MLS said in a statement.

The league also emphasized the Galaxy’s commitment to cooperating fully in the investigation. “The LA Galaxy agree to work in coordination with MLS to conduct a full investigation of the incident that took place on July 4, 2024. The club prioritizes working closely with our supporter groups, which includes ensuring that they abide by the MLS Fan Code of Conduct.”

MLS slaps LA Galaxy with $100,000 fine for fan misconduct

This isn’t the first time MLS has had to crack down on fan behavior. Similar sanctions were slapped on LAFC’s main supporters’ group, the 3252, after they set off flares at BMO Stadium during the Western Conference final in December. The smoke was so thick that the game had to be paused. For that stunt, MLS fined LAFC $100,000 and suspended the 3252’s supporter privileges.

Earlier this week, MLS and Galaxy reps hinted that no further action would be taken after the Galaxy banned drums and capo stands in the Victoria Block during last weekend’s win over Minnesota United at Dignity Health Sports Park. But it looks like MLS decided to up the ante.

Along with the fine, the Galaxy has agreed to a full investigation of the July 4 incident. Any fans found guilty of violations will face further penalties, including indefinite bans and all appropriate legal actions. This comprehensive review aims to beef up security measures and improve how the club manages its supporters moving forward, according to the league.

This whole situation highlights MLS's commitment to keeping games safe and enjoyable for everyone. So, fans, take note—misbehavior won’t be tolerated, and there are serious consequences for crossing the line.
