The LA Galaxy are in ongoing discussions with free agent attacker Marco Reus and remain optimistic about finalizing a deal, according to Tom Bogert.
These negotiations have been taking place for over a month, with initial meetings between the Galaxy and Reus’ representatives occurring around the time of the Champions League final. However, the talks are complex due to salary cap constraints, limiting the Galaxy's offer to $1.7 million per season.
In MLS, clubs are allowed three Designated Players who can earn beyond the salary cap. Other players on the roster are restricted to a maximum salary of approximately $1.7 million this year. Currently, the Galaxy’s three DPs are Riqui Puig, Gabriel Pec, and Joseph Paintsil.
Reus, who parted ways with Borussia Dortmund this summer after his contract ended, has other offers from the Middle East and Europe. Despite potentially more lucrative financial packages available elsewhere, Reus has indicated a preference for joining the Galaxy if he moves to MLS.

Journalist provides key update on Marco Reus' potential signing with LA Galaxy
Reus' exit from Borussia Dortmund signifies the end of an era. With 170 goals and 131 assists, Reus played a pivotal role in Dortmund's success. At his prime, Reus was one of the most thrilling wingers globally, particularly during the 2013-14 and 2018-19 seasons.
The potential acquisition of Marco Reus by the LA Galaxy is a captivating prospect that could greatly enhance the team's offensive capabilities. Despite the financial limitations, Reus’ desire to join the Galaxy highlights the club’s appeal. His extensive experience and proven success could be the catalyst the Galaxy need as they maintain a strong position in the Western Conference standings.
Additionally, Reus’ omission from Germany's Euro 2024 squad could benefit the Galaxy. Unlike European leagues, MLS does not always take breaks during international tournaments, which can leave teams without their star players. Having Reus available for the entire MLS season without the distraction of international duty could be a significant advantage.
