It has been nearly a year since the German-born soccer star joined the Los Angeles Galaxy. As aggressive as their General Manager, Will Kuntz, was two winters ago, he struck one of the most significant signings in MLS history.
Marco Reus recorded a goal and an assist during his debut last season against Atlanta United. He contributed to both of the LA Galaxy's scores and was a major factor in last year's legendary playoff run.
Despite the impressive showing, his teammates and fans have grown accustomed to that level of production on a more regular basis. In 16 regular season games for the LA Galaxy this year, Reus has scored five times and tallied eight assists.
His scoring ability has saved the Los Angeles Galaxy from an even worse mark (3-7-14). He blasted a pair of strikes to salvage a 2-2 draw against LAFC during Rivalry Week. Reus also is responsible for his team's only goal in the 1-1 tie against the San Jose Earthquakes.
Was Marco Reus that much better in July than in May or June?
Simply put, yes. In the LA Galaxy's four games last month, Reus scored once and was credited with two assists.
What's even more impressive is that the defending MLS Cup winners went unbeaten (2-1-0) in those games. The LA Galaxy only has three wins on the season as Reus sat out the first one. Their first win of the 2025 regular season was a 2-0 shutout victory over Real Salt Lake.
In the three games during May (against the Philadelphia Union, LAFC, and San Diego FC), Reus contributed to every single goal by the LA Galaxy. The 36-year-old player scored twice and racked up three assists during that span.
Of the Los Angeles Galaxy's four goals in June, Reus contributed on three of them (one goal and two assists). Had it not been for Joao Klauss's hat-trick, the LA Galaxy would have enjoyed another win (3-2) when they played St. Louis City SC.
As the LA Galaxy reside at the bottom of the MLS Western Conference standings, making the playoffs is nearly impossible to happen. It will be the second time in three years that the once mighty juggernauts of the league miss out on the postseason.
However, Reus is making people excited for what could be for next year with a healthy Riqui Puig, and improvements to the Galaxy's roster. But for now, let's enjoy the greatness that he is, our Player of the Month (twice again), Marco Reus.
