To begin the season, the defending champions haven't had the same success yet as they did a year ago. The Los Angeles Galaxy have gone 0-2-3 in their first five regular season games.

Formerly known as the LA Galaxy II, the second roster is one of the many many teams in the MLS Next Pro level. Ventura County FC has played in three games thus far.

Is Ventura County FC doing better than the LA Galaxy main roster?

For starters, Ventura County FC won their season opener. They hosted Tacoma Defiance and won, 3-2. Dylan Vanney was a big reason for the victory.

Their manager, Matthew Taylor, went with a 4-2-3-1 formation in the team's first game. A switch to a 4-3-3 formation occurred during the next match. That resulted in a 3-1 loss against LAFC 2.

Vanney got the lone assist in this contest. His well-placed pass to Aaron Bibout prevented Ventura County from being shut out. Bibout, unfortunately, has since been traded to Västerås SK.

During Wednesday night's game against Houston's second unit, Ventura County FC switched to a 4-3-3 formation. They won this game 1-0 thanks to Luis Müller's score.

Currently, that's more than the LA Galaxy has as they remain winless entering the weekend. The six-time MLS champions will host Orlando City SC on Saturday at Dignity Health Sports Park.

The Los Angeles Galaxy have a potentially can jump from 14th to 12th in the MLS Western Conference with a win at home. That would put them just one victory behind their second unit, Ventura County FC.
