3. LA Galaxy make history in victory against Vancouver Whitecaps
While they already punched their ticket for the postseason, the Galaxy sent a message to the rest of the league in this contest.
Also, two games after the previous shared memory in this article, Head Coach Greg Vanney saw his team in the midst of a slight struggle. After slaying LAFC 4-2, the Galaxy then lost to the Portland Timbers, 4-2, on the road.
In a third game in a row, the final score was 4-2. Luckily, the Galaxy benefited from this outcome for the second time in the month of September.
Gabriel Pec scored the only goal of the first half. At this point, he, Joveljic and Puig each had ten goals or more already. That tied the 1998 record by the LA Galaxy when Cobi Jones (19 goals), Welton (17 goals) and Mauricio Cienfuegos (13 goals) also scored ten goals or more.
No other team has fielded a trio of teammates in the same season to each record ten scores or more. In the 69th minute, when Paintsil found the back of the net, the Los Angeles Galaxy became the first MLS team to ever have four teammates accomplish this feat.
In addition, Pec and Paintsil became the first pair of newcomers to in MLS to score ten times and also record ten assist in their first season together. As we all know, this wasn't the end of history in the making for the Galaxy in 2024.
Twas' one the best seasons ever for one of the league's original teams.
