Where is the LA Galaxy's leading scorer?

The absence of forward Dejan Joveljic has not been felt, yet

The Los Angeles Galaxy have one of the highest-scoring offenses and boast one of the best records in the league. As a team, they have found the net 52 times.

Including Saturday night's victory over visiting Atlanta United, the LA Galaxy have 17 games in which they have scored two goals or more. They still have seven more games remaining in their season.

The Serbian forward joined the team in 2021. The LA Galaxy have only appeared in the playoffs once with Joveljic and that was in 2022. That should change by the end of this year.

Arguably having his best season while in Major League Soccer, Joveljic has appeared in 21 games, starting all but three of those. He has 12 goals on the season which is top marks for the Los Angeles Galaxy.

In addition, Joveljic also has recorded five assists. He opened up the season by scoring one goal in each of the LA Galaxy's first five games.

However, the recently turned 25-year-old has not taken the field for his team since the July 7th contest against Minnesota United FC. He has missed time due to a lingering hamstring injury.

Though he did not step onto the field, he was listed as eligible for Saturday's game against Atlanta FC. Head Coach Greg Vanney decided that standing pat was not an option as the team signed Dortmund star Marco Reus. In his first game with the LA Galaxy, Reus recorded a goal and an assist as he did not appear in the game until the second half.

During the Los Angeles Galaxy's four-game win streak in June, Joveljic registered at least one goal and/or an assist in each of those matches. The only outing he scored more than one goal was in the home game against FC Dallas at the end of May.

While the LA Galaxy currently sit in first place, Vanney and his players would benefit from the much-anticipated return of Joveljic. With a rematch against LAFC and games against five other Western Conference playoff hopefuls to close the season, the LA Galaxy surely could use their leading scorer back on the field.

If Joveljic returns to the lineup Saturday against St. Louis City FC, Vanney could go with a potential starting front of Diego Fagundez, Joseph Paintsil, Ricard Puig, and Gabriel Pec up top. That would allow Vanney to use Miguel Berry and Joveljic as viable substitutions.

Good luck stopping that type of star power on the field as Reus and Marky Delgado complement those players, too. LA Galaxy fans can't wait to see Joveljic back on the field soon.
