In every sport, there is a franchise that is wrapped around in history, success and a strong reputation. For instance, the New York Yankees have won the most World Series titles in Major League Baseball. The Montreal Canadiens have captured the most Stanley Cup championships in the National Hockey League.

Major League Soccer has their own darling. The Los Angeles Galaxy have won a record five Major League Soccer championships and lost in four other MLS Finals. This year, they stand a very good chance at adding to their history and success by winning their sixth.

Currently, the LA Galaxy are in first place of the Western Conference with just three games to play. They already have 17 wins this year, the most the team has had in ten years.

In 2014, the Los Angeles Galaxy went 17-10-7. They finished the regular season as the second-best team in the league that year. They also won their last MLS Cup that year, too.

What's so special about this year?

Well for starters, the offense is full of stars. Dejan Joveljic and Ricard Puig have been with the team for a few seasons now. This year, Head Coach Greg Vanney and General Manager Will Kuntz ushered in a round of new talent.

They brought in newcomers Joseph Paintsil and Gabriel Pec earlier in the year. This summer, the squad also added Marco Reus.

This year's Galaxy team became the first to boast four players with at least ten goals or more. Joveljic, Paintsil, Pec and Puig all accomplished that this year. As a team, they have scored ten goals in their last three games (2-0-1).

Paintsil and Pec are also the first pair of teammates to score ten goals and assist on as many in their first season in MLS. The offense is not the only place where management made changes.

The LA Galaxy moved on from their goalie Jonathan Bond and brought in John McCarthy. Last year, the Galaxy tied the record of most goals allowed in a season (67). McCarthy has six clean sheets on the year to go with his 115 saves.

After only winning eight games a season ago, the LA Galaxy have more than doubled that win total in 2024. In fact, they have yet to lose back-to-back games at any point this year. Furthermore, they play better at home as they are undefeated when playing at Dignity Health Sports Park.

Vanney has coached a winner before. He took Toronto FC to the MLS Finals three times in a four-year span, winning it all in 2017. His nephew and current Galaxy player, Eriq Zavaleta, was also a part of that championship team.

With seven more goals this season, the LA Galaxy would eclipse 70, a new second-place high in franchise history. The team has three more games left to place including Wednesday night's match against the Colorado Rapids.

The Los Angeles Galaxy hope to win another title as this is the best the LA Galaxy have looked in about a decade. Hopefully this season ends the same as it did in 2014... more success to add to their history and winning another title.
