After another 2-2 FT, the third in a row for the LA Galaxy, the five-time MLS Champions still find themselves in a logjam Western Conference Table. A trio of other teams are tied for second with 21 points: Minnesota, Colorado, and the other Los Angeles team, LAFC.
In order to win and accumulate more points in the standings, here are three players that need to step up moving forward.
1. John McCarthy
The LA Galaxy have not won in their last four games. In the thirteen games he's played, keeper John McCarthy has 52 saves on the season. However, he has allowed 20 goals averaging 2.6 allowed a game.
The last time the Galaxy scored three goals in a game was their last win, 4-3, five games ago against a lowly San Jose. McCarthy must do better if the Galaxy looks to return to the MLS Championships for a tenth time.
The 31-year-old does have two complete shutouts on the season. He has allowed one goal or fewer in just five of the thirteen games. There are eight games where he allowed two or more goals.
An aging defense needs to be more supportive, but the goal differential falls on McCarthy. While the Galaxy has recorded 25 goals, they have allowed opponents to score 21 (one was an own goal).
