Xavi Hernandez made a bold lineup choice on November 12 in the match against Alaves, selecting Ter Stegen, Araujo, Kounde, Iñigo Martinez, Cancelo, Gundogan, Fermin, Pedri, Lamine Yamal, Lewandowski, and Joao Felix. The limited presence of homegrown players has drawn criticism from Riqui Puig.

The former Barça player, now with the LA Galaxy, 'liked' a post that emphasized the absence of players developed in the Barcelona youth system. However, he later removed his endorsement. Puig had previously expressed discontent with the circumstances surrounding his departure from Barça, including direct grievances against his former coach.

Riqui Puig left Barcelona for the MLS's Los Angeles Galaxy on August 22, with Xavi at the helm. The 22-year-old Catalan midfielder struggled to secure a spot in the Barça first team under both Xavi and previous coaches.

Having ascended to the First Division in the 18/19 season, the Matadepera native concluded his tenure at Barça with 57 appearances. Overall, his relationship with the Barcelona coach appears amicable, although Puig disclosed feeling mistreated by Xavi. "Before the season's end, he had already informed me that he wouldn't be counting on me," stated the Galaxy midfielder.
