Riqui Puig claims LA Galaxy can beat any MLS team
By Manuel Meza
The Galaxy secured the goal on Saturday, defeated LAFC, and clinched a playoff spot. Now, the next challenge is to finish first in the Western Conference.
The Galaxy currently leads second-place LAFC by seven points as they head into midweek action. With five games remaining, including a road match on Wednesday against the Portland Timbers, the Galaxy are in a strong position. In contrast, LAFC has seven games left to play. Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney said:
"I think what we saw (on Saturday night) and the message there was that the win demonstrates exactly why it’s so important to win the West and be able to play this game or this type of game in the playoffs in this building."
The Supporters’ Shield may be out of reach for the Galaxy (16-6-7, 55 points), with Inter Miami leading with 62 points. After their trip to Portland, the Galaxy’s final stretch will see them at home against Vancouver on Saturday, followed by a road game at Colorado on October 2.
They will then have their last home game on October 5 against Austin FC before concluding the regular season with a match at Houston on October 19.
Riqui Puig claims LA Galaxy can beat any MLS team
Riqui Puig expressed confidence in the LA Galaxy's ability to compete with and defeat any team in the MLS. He believes the team is currently performing at a high level and has significantly improved since previous seasons.
"I think this year we have the pieces that we might not have had two years ago, and that’s really good for me because we have very fast players at the top, and that’s hard to defend against for other teams."
Puig pointed out that while the team was dominating their match against Miami for most of the game, they ultimately drew due to a late lapse. He emphasized that the current squad includes key players with exceptional speed, which makes them challenging for opponents to defend against.
