With their upcoming match against the Colorado Rapids, the LA Galaxy are making the most of a rare week-long break.

With their next game against the Colorado Rapids coming up on October 2nd, the Los Angeles Galaxy are taking advantage of a rare week-long break.

This period has allowed players to relax, spend time with family, and recover from the grueling season. At the same time head coach Greg Vanney and his staff focus on fine-tuning strategies for the final stretch of the regular season and upcoming playoffs.

With the 2024 MLS season nearing its conclusion, the Galaxy find themselves in a strong position. They’ve played 31 matches, amassing 58 points, which secures their spot atop the Western Conference and places them second in the Supporters’ Shield race.

Key to the Galaxy’s success this year has been their remarkable offensive output. LA has netted a conference-best 63 goals, and in doing so, made MLS history as the first team to have four players, Gabriel Pec, Dejan Joveljic, Joseph Paintsil, and Riqui Puig, each score 10 or more goals in the same season.

The team’s home form has been particularly dominant, boasting the best record in the league at Dignity Health Sports Park. Meanwhile, their away performance has seen a significant uptick, jumping from 24th place in 2023 to 12th place in 2024 in MLS standings.

Amid this successful campaign, the LA Galaxy front office, led by Will Kuntz, confirmed the extension of Vanney’s contract through 2025.

The extension was triggered by the Galaxy’s playoff qualification, but Vanney’s impressive leadership and tactical acumen have also earned him praise, with some pundits naming him a contender for MLS Coach of the Year.

With all eyes on the postseason, the LA Galaxy stand nine games away from potentially securing their first MLS title in a decade. If they can sustain their current form and manage the demands of the season’s final weeks, 2024 could mark the triumphant return of a club once synonymous with MLS dominance.
