Los Angeles Galaxy Forwards & Midfielders: Start 'Em or Bench 'Em
By Scott Conrad
The Los Angeles Galaxy have another big game coming up this weekend as they look to add to the narrow lead they have over their rival, LAFC, in the Western Conference Standings. The Galaxy's margin is just four points but have played two more games than their opponent.
This will only be the third regular season game played by the LA Galaxy since the break in MLS action during the end of July and early August. The five-time MLS champions have only managed to split those games, winning one and losing one.
They crushed the visiting Atlanta United team as the league officially welcomed former Dortmund sensation, Marco Reus. He assisted on the first goal of the game to Ricard Puig. Then, Reus added a score of his own just eight minutes later.
Come Saturday, will both Reus and Puig start the game for the LA Galaxy? Or will the come off the bench? With Greg Vanney, the head coach of the Galaxy, using a 4-2-3-1 formation, this is who should be starting at forward and who should be in the second unit.
Who gets named the starter up top?
Both contests since the break, Joseph Paintsil has been listed as the starting forward. The 26-year-old forward from Ghana has both eight goals and eight assists in 24 games this season. He has started all but one of them.
Back in the middle of July, the LA Galaxy won against both the Portland Timbers and the Colorado Rapids in a span of just four days. The Galaxy were victorious, 3-2 in each, as Paintsil either scored or assisted on five of those six combined goals.
With Vanney looking to score and as often as possible against another MLS contender, Paintsil gives them a solid chance to win on Saturday as he played the full game against Atlanta United and St. Louis City SC recently.
