This Saturday marks the highly anticipated MLS season opener, with LA Galaxy set to take on arch-rivals LAFC in the first 'El Tráfico' of the 2024 campaign at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.

The Galactics enter the clash with momentum on their side, having secured two consecutive victories in their opening matches.

They kicked off the season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Seattle Sounders, thanks to a goal from their new Designated Player, Gabriel Pec. In their second outing, they staged a thrilling comeback against Sporting KC, clinching a 3-2 victory dramatically.

However, there are concerns over the availability of veteran defender Martín Cáceres, who may miss out due to precautionary measures outlined by Galaxy's manager, Greg Vanney.

Despite this setback, there's positive news as Dejan Joveljic, previously doubtful due to injury concerns, is fit and ready for the showdown against their city rivals.

Looking ahead to the match, here is LA Galaxy's projected starting XI to face LAFC this Saturday:

  • Goalkeeper: John McCarthy.
  • Defenders: Miki Yamane, Eriq Zavaleta, Maya Yoshida, Julián Aude.
  • Midfielders: Mark Delgado, Gaston Brugman.
  • Attacking midfielder: Riqui Puig.
  • Forwards: Joseph Paintsil, Dejan Joveljic, Gabriel Pec.

With a blend of experience and emerging talent, LA Galaxy aims to maintain their winning streak and secure a statement victory against their fierce rivals, LAFC.

Putting aside the issue of Martín Cáceres' injury, in our opinion, this would be the most competitive starting eleven that LA Galaxy can field today. There's debate about whether Pec should start or, alternatively, Fagundez.

But from our perspective, Vanney has been gradually laying the groundwork for Pec to become an undisputed starter, and we believe he won't disrupt his competitive rhythm.
