In a thrilling game during the second round of the 2024 Leagues Cup, LA Galaxy pulled off a 2-1 victory over San Jose Earthquakes.

The match kicked off with early action as Gabriel Pec's header was skillfully saved by San Jose's goalkeeper, William Yarbrough, in the 9th minute. Shortly after, Riqui Puig took a powerful shot that hit Yarbrough in the face, causing a brief stoppage as the medical team attended to the injured keeper.

San Jose had their own chances to score, with Amahl Pellegrino and Carlos Gruezo both testing LA Galaxy's Serbian goalkeeper, Novak Mićović. Despite being well-positioned, neither player could break through Mićović's defenses.

The first breakthrough came in the 41st minute when Diego Fagúndez put LA Galaxy ahead with a stunning right-footed shot. After a creative play by Gabriel Pec, Fagúndez received the ball at the edge of the area, created space, and fired into the back of the net, giving Galaxy the lead.

In the second half, LA Galaxy seemed to be managing their advantage effectively, but San Jose Earthquakes equalized in the 75th minute. A turnover allowed Carlos Gruezo to send a precise pass to Jeremy Ebobisse, who finished quickly as Mićović came out to challenge him.

The game appeared to be heading for a draw until the 89th minute when LA Galaxy regained their lead. Riqui Puig made a brilliant pass into space to Miki Yamane, who crossed the ball to Miguel Berry. Berry, with a well-placed finish from six yards out, scored the decisive goal, ensuring LA Galaxy's victory.

With this win, LA Galaxy now looks ahead to their next match against Chivas de Guadalajara, where they'll battle for the top spot in Group B. They could also face off against Javier Hernández, the former Galaxy forward, if he recovers from his injury.

The next game is key for deciding where the team stands in the tournament and their next steps. Heading back home, the Galaxy will be pumped to keep their momentum going and lock in their spot for the knockout rounds of the Leagues Cup.
