The LA Galaxy Academy has confirmed its participation in the highly anticipated 2024 Generation adidas Cup, announcing the inclusion of its U-15s and U-17s squads. This prestigious international youth tournament will showcase teams from every MLS academy, along with 49 club academies from a remarkable 15 countries spanning four continents. A total of 80 teams, with 40 in each age group (U-17 and U-15), are set to compete at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., from March 30 to April 7.
The LA Galaxy Academy's U-15s have been placed in Group H, where they will face off against the Colombus Crew, Toronto FC, and C.F. Monterrey. Meanwhile, the U-17s will compete in Group J, pitting themselves against the New York Red Bulls, Orlando City, and C.F. Monterrey.
The tournament structure will see forty teams divided into 10 groups of four for each age group. The group draws will be random, with MLS academies categorized by division and international clubs drawn randomly. Sixteen teams will advance to the single-elimination championship bracket, comprising the 10 group winners and the top six second-place finishers. The next-best 16 teams will enter a consolation bracket, with the final eight teams competing in consolation groups to ensure more competitive matches.
All participating teams in the 2024 Generation adidas Cup are guaranteed seven 60-minute matches, each consisting of two 30-minute halves. Championship matches in both age groups will be extended to 70-minute matches, with tied contests at the end of regulation proceeding directly to penalty-kick shootouts.
Following the tournament's conclusion, awards will be presented in both age groups, recognizing outstanding performances with accolades such as the Generation adidas Cup Most Valuable Player, Top Scorer, and the Generation adidas Cup Best Goalkeeper presented by Allstate. Additionally, the Generation adidas Cup Rising XI presented by BODYARMOR Sports Drink will highlight standout players from each position.
