If you woke up Thursday morning and looked at the MLS Western Conference Standings, there is a new leader of the pack. Entering Wednesday night's games, the LA Galaxy had 43 points, along with LAFC and Real Salt Lake.

For now, the LA Galaxy became the front runner out west. In addition to their win, a 1-1 tie in the contest between LAFC and Real Salt Lake also made this outcome happen. The five-time MLS Champions now have a two point lead entering the weekend.

In typical fashion, the Galaxy's offense scored in bunches. Despite allowing two first-half goals, their offense produced three of their own. With a 3-2 lead entering the second half, no other scores were needed as neither team added to the scoreboard in the final +45 minutes.

After the offense went cold on their last outing against FC Dallas, it turned out Wednesday night. Starting things off was

Nine minutes into the game, Diego Fagundez took a nice rip from outside the box. Three minutes later, his next attempt went into the back of the net. Gabriel Pec assisted on the play.

The midfielder from Uruguay has four goals now on the season. Pec has 10 assists to complement the offense's efforts.

In the 31st minute, Colorado tied it up with a goal from Kevin Cabral and an assist from Johnathan Lewis. Within the next twelve minutes of play, the Los Angeles Galaxy responded with two more scores.

Joseph Paintsil broke the 1-1 tie in the 37th minute with his goal from very close range to the top right corner. The fast break goal was assisted by Gabriel Pec. Paintsil would go on to assist the third and final goal for the Galaxy by Riqui Puig.

Cole Bassett for the Rapids scored in the final minute of the first half. That goal cut into the LA Galaxy lead, but it was not enough to preserve a win for themselves.

Both Paintsil and Puig recorded their seventh goal of the season. Like Pec, Puig also has 10 assists on the season.

Forward Dejan Joveljic sat this game out again. This time, the Galaxy did not lose as they did the last time the team took the field. With Wednesday night's victory, they now sit in first place, alone.

Their next game is on Saturday as they host the Portland Timbers. This will be the first meeting between the two teams as they will play again on Wednesday, September 18. The LA Galaxy have a ten-point lead over their opponent.
