Imagine, a full season with Marco Reus on the LA Galaxy
By Scott Conrad
Life is good for the Los Angeles Galaxy. Yet, in a story of 'the rich getting richer,' that's essentially what General Manager Will Kuntz and Head Coach Greg Vanney have done.
Their roster already supported the talent of Riqui Puig and Dejan Joveljic. They added Joseph Painstil and Gabriel Pec this year, among others.
Yet, one of the most eye-pooping acquistiions the LA Galaxy made this year game just two months ago. The Western Conference front-runner signed Marco Reus to come play stateside in Major League Soccer.
In the 28th game of the regular season for the Galaxy, Reus made his debut at Dignity Health Sports Park against Atlanta United. The result sent shockwaves around not only the Western Conference but the entire league, as well.
In the 62nd minute of that game, Reus came into the game for Marky Delgado. It took just 14 minutes for former Borussia Dortmund legend to record his first MLS point via the assist to Puig's goal.
Eight minutes later, Reus found the back of the net, too. Reus would assist on the fourth goal in the game against LAFC (also scored by Puig).
Now, what if Reus had 34 games with the LA Galaxy?
We already know Dejan Joveljic is the Galaxy's leading scorer thus far with 14 goals on the year. The next three have players have 10 goals or more: Puig, Paintsil and Pec.
Those three are also the leading assist getters: one, two, and three. Pec and Puig have 25 points on the season while Paintsil has 20. Even Joveljic's five assists help give him 19 points thus far.
Could you imagine five players on the same team with at least ten goals and twenty points?
If Reus played in at least 30 of the Galaxy's 34 games, that is a realistic possibility. The newest member of the LA Galaxy has yet to play more than one full game this year, either.
Joveljic is signed through at least next season. Reus is on the books through 2026. Puig and Paintsil are inked for another year after that while Pec is locked in through 2028.
If not this year, perhaps next. Records are sometimes meant to be broken, especially ones held by the Galaxy already.
