Saturday marks the 28th regular season matchup between the Los Angeles Galaxy and the Vancouver Whitecaps. The two teams have playing against each other since Vancouver joined Major League Soccer in 2011.

In the all-time series between these two teams, the Galaxy lead the Whitecaps with a commanding record of 16-11-7.

The LA Galaxy has flexed their dominance this season at Dignity Health Sports Park where they have yet to lose all season. The last time that Vancouver has been victorious here was in early March of 2020.

How it started out

During the Vancouver Whitecaps' inaugural season, they played the LA Galaxy twice and lost both times. In neither game did the five-time MLS champions allow a goal.

In the third meeting ever between the two, the LA Galaxy shutout the Whitecaps again. Despite Vancouver finally scoring two goals in their fourth encounter, so did the Los Angeles Galaxy. The game would end in a 2-2 draw.

In their next seven games, the LA Galaxy won five times and only dropping one. One of these battles took place in the MLS Western Conference Playoffs.

After the Whitecaps scored in the third minute on November 2nd, 2012, the LA Galaxy responded with two unanswered goals in the final half of play. Mike Magee and Landon Donovan both found the back of the net to keep the Galaxy's unbeaten streak alive against Vancouver.

The Whitecaps first victory against the Galaxy came in mid-May of 2013. After a scoreless first half, the LA Galaxy gave up three goals in the second half. Gyasi Zardes was the loner scorer for the Galaxy that day.

The 2017 season is the only time that the Los Angeles Galaxy has dropped both games against Vancouver. If the Whitecaps are looking to do that again, they will have to try again next year. The Galaxy beat them, 3-1, earlier this year.

Dejan Joveljic scored the game's first goal and Vancouver would soon tie it up. Joseph Paintsil and Diego Fagundez joined the stat sheet, too.
