Wednesday night's match did not go the way the Los Angeles Galaxy and their fan base imagined it. Following their biggest win of the season just days before, the five-time MLS champions turned in one of their worst performances defensively yet this year.

Only the numbers on the scoreboard were the same between both Saturday's and Wednesday night's games, 4-2. This time it was the Galaxy on the losing end of that result.

Head Coach Greg Vanney spoke of avoiding the early deficits like the Galaxy experienced against LAFC.

"I thought first off, we got ourselves into a hole. Our setup wasn't the right setup given the circumstances. We were expecting one thing, saw a little bit of another."

That was the case yet again when the LA Galaxy saw another2-0 hole within the first 40 minutes of the game. In fact, starting LA Galaxy goalie has allowed two goals or more in all three games this month. John McCarthy has given up eight goals in September (1-0-2).

Is a switch at keeper imminent for the LA Galaxy?

Since their four-game win streak in June, McCarthy has allowed two goals or more in seven of the Galaxy's last nine games. During that stretch, the team has still put together six wins and only suffered three loses.

However, two of those losses have been in the Galaxy's three most recent games. With four games remaining, perhaps a switch is in order to rejuvenate Vanney's troops out there.

"We conceded four goals, which is far too many and impossible to win when you give up four goals."

No official word has been given or even uttered that has been made public. If and when there is, Vanney has a capable backup in Novak Micovic.

The Serbian second string had a strong showing in the two matches he started during the Leagues Cup against the San Jose Earthquakes and Guadalajara.

Micovic allowed just one goal in the victory over the Earthquakes. The LA Galaxy had to settle for a draw, however, in the match with Guadalajara, 2-2.

The efficiency in goal by Micovic was on display then. The last time he has seen the field during the MLS regular season was in the loss at Chicago on June 1st. Before that was on the road in Charlottle, 0-0 draw.

Micovic has yet to play at home this season as that is where the Los Angeles Galaxy's next game will be. The Vancouver Whitecaps come to town as they take on the Western Conference leaders on Saturday at Dignity Health Sports Park.

As of now, McCarthy is still the starter as the Los Angeles remain at the top in the West with 55 points. They have a five-point lead over second place, Real Salt Lake.
