Entering Sunday, the Los Angeles Galaxy only had five losses and the host team, St. Louis City SC, had only four wins. Both of those numbers increased after the 2-1 upset on the road.

Within the first ten minutes, the Galaxy gave up the first of two goals in this one. Keeper John McCarthy was unable to come up with the save on Cedric Teuchert's second career goal in MLS.

For the rest of the first half, the Los Angeles Galaxy played down a goal. They tied it up in the first minute of the second half. Gabriel Pec found the back of the net for the tenth time this season. Miguel Berry, who subbed in for starter Diego Fagundez, was credited with the assist.

The Los Angeles Galaxy enjoyed just twelve minutes of a 1-1 tie. Marcel Hartel for St. Louis City SC added the crushing blow to Pec, Berry and company. A win would have secured a playoff berth for the LA Galaxy.

The five-time MLS Champions maintained possession for close to 60% of the game. They had just as many shot attempts and shots on goal as their opponent. However, the LA Galaxy played an uncharacteristically sloppy game. They committed 17 fouls, ten more than St. Louis City SC.

Marco Reus was not able to be savior again. He had a goal and an assist in his debut against Atlanta United last week. In addition, Dejan Joveljic returned to action when he came into the came for Reus at the 77th minute of play.

With the LA Galaxy's leading scorer back on the field, it still was not enough to muster up their second goal in the game to salvage their efforts with a tie. Stuck at 52 points in the Western Conference Standings, the LA Galaxy will be idle for almost two weeks.

The good news is that the LA Galaxy still control first place and are off until Saturday, September 14th. The not-so-good news is that they have their cross-town rival and second place LAFC to face next.

LAFC has a rematch against the Houston Dynamo. If they were to win and earn three more points in the standings, that would give the LA Galaxy just a two-point edge before they meet again. At least the rubber match is at home where the Los Angeles Galaxy have yet to lose a game this year.
