Saturday night the Los Angeles Galaxy avoided losing back-to-back games as they remain undefeated at Dignity Health Sports Park this year. By the end of this contest, the scoreboard looked all to familiar.
This is the third game in a row for the LA Galaxy that the score was 4-2 after two halves and stoppage time. Unlike Wednesday, the Galaxy found themselves on the winning end of this six goal thriller. Much like they did a week ago when they rallied back from being down 2-0 at half against LAFC.
With their latest win, the LA Galaxy now have 17 wins on the season and 58 points in the Western Conference Standings. They have now more than doubled their win total from a year ago.
Their offense is clicking at the right time since the addition of Marco Reus. The Galaxy have scored ten goals in their last three games (2-0-1).
One of those goals however happened as a result of an own goal Saturday night. Sebastian Berhalter was credited with the own goal five minutes into the second half. This gave the LA Galaxy a 2-0 lead as they never looked back.
Galaxy forward Gabriel Pec was the only one on the field for either team to find the back of the net. His 13th goal gave the Galaxy the upper hand in this game. It is the first time that they have held a lead in the first half since the July 31st game against the San Jose Earthquakes.
Tied for the most goals scored in the West (with the Portland Timbers), they Galaxy have scored 63 times. Thus, it's hard to imagine that they have not held a lead in the first half of play for almost two months.
Joseph Paintsil and Riqui Puig also added to the scoreboard. Along with Dejan Joveljic, the teams leading scorer, the LA Galaxy now have four players to record ten goals or more. This is the first time in Major League Soccer history this has ever happened.
"It's really an amazing thing that the four of us have 10-plus goals. It's really a plus for us and also a plus for the team."Joseph Paintsil, LA Galaxy forward
The Los Angeles Galaxy are off until October 2nd when they travel to play the Colorado Rapids. Minnesota United FC will host the Rapids before then as both those teams are looking to make the playoffs.
The Galaxy have already clinched a playoff berth and are in control of locking up the top seed in the Western Conference. The five-time MLS champions will finish the regular season against a pair of Texas teams when they host Austin FC and fly to Houston to face the Dynamo in their season finale.
