3 key areas LA Galaxy must improve ahead of the 2024 MLS season
By Manuel Meza
As the 2024 MLS season for the LA Galaxy kicks off officially on February 25th against Inter Miami at Dignity Health Sports Park, we're just a week away from the start. The preseason is over, and despite some promising performances, the LA Galaxy only managed to secure one victory.
Looking ahead to the upcoming season, there are three key areas the LA Galaxy needs to address:
1. Defensive solidity
While the team's resilience is admirable, conceding 11 goals in 6 preseason matches highlights a vulnerability, particularly in the absence of key defenders. Strengthening the defensive line and organization will be crucial to bolstering the team's overall performance.
2. Reduced reliance on star players
The Galaxy must develop a more balanced approach that doesn't solely rely on its designated stars. While Riqui Puig has been integral to the team's dynamic, there's a need for cohesion and effectiveness even in the absence of key players. With new designated players like Gabriel Pec and Joseph Paintsil (yet to be confirmed), there's an opportunity to diversify the team's attacking options and reduce dependency on individual talents.
3. Offensive creativity
While Miguel Berry and Dejan Joveljic showed promise during preseason, there's room for improvement in terms of goal generation. Players like Diego Fagundez or Jonathan Pérez must step up to contribute creatively in the final third, offering additional attacking options alongside established stars. Enhancing offensive creativity will be essential for unlocking opposition defenses and securing vital goals throughout the season.
With the start of the MLS season looming, addressing these areas of concern will be crucial for the LA Galaxy to hit the ground running and compete at the highest level. Fans will be eager to see how the team adapts and evolves as they embark on their 2024 campaign.
