A decade ago, the Los Angeles Galaxy hoisted the MLS Cup for a fifth time. They entered the 2015 MLS season with high hopes and a rejuvenated energy after missing out altogether in 2013.
Fast-forward ten years later, the LA Galaxy qualified for their tenth MLS Cup Finals and took advantage it. The Western Conference phenoms claimed their sixth such victory on that stage.
The roster is sure to look difference during their title defense in the 2025 regular season. Midfielder Riqui Puig went down but finished playing in the Western Conference Finals against the Seattle Sounders. He unfortunately suffered an ACL tear that will likely keep him out of the next season.
Adding to the theme of change, General Manager Will Kuntz sent the MLS Cup Finals MVP Gaston Brugman to Nashville for veteran midfielder Sean Davis. Brugman filled in nicely for the injured Puig as he recorded the games first assist.
While no other significant moves have been made by the LA Galaxy, rumors have been swirling. On recently involving Igor Jesus.
The Los Angeles Galaxy and Estrela are set to agree on a $4 million transfer. The move would bring on another dual-position player for Head Coach Greg Vanney to plug into his lineups.
Julian Aude has played defense primarily. However, the 21-year-old has also come up field and played midfield, as well. Recent first-round pick Jason Bucknor has also the same talents and experience being a defender and midfielder, too.
Who is Igor Jesus Lima?
The same age as Aude, at 21 years old, Jesus is from Goiânia, Brazil. He previously played for Flamengo; a Portuguese Brazilian club located in Rio de Janeiro.
Jesus has also played for the U23 Brazilian National Team in 2023. He appeared in five games for the team while barely being 20 years old.
In 2024, he joined his current team, Estrela da Amadora. The six-time MLS winners and Estrela are finalizing details that would bring a youthful and athletic defender and midfield.
While the LA Galaxy have not released or shipped any other players off, the rumor mill is churning that Edwin Cerrillo may have played his last game for the Galaxy already. Both Maya Yoshida and Martin Caceres are on the wrong side of 35.
Kuntz and Vanney may want to infuse the team with some younger players with Marco Reus, 35, and Miki Yamane, 31, still on the roster. Vanney's nephew, Eriq Zavaleta is also in his early 30's.
The majority of the LA Galaxy's core is mid-20's. Jesus would join Aude, Jalen Neal, Mauricio Cuevas, and Ruben Ramos. This bodes well for the future success for the team.
It remains to be made official but the Galaxy is no stranger to taking international talent in the winter months leading up to their season. That's how Joseph Paintsil and Gabriel Pec became members of the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Thus, we potentially may be welcoming Igor Jesus to the Galaxy in Carson, California.
