This Saturday, a couple of significant additions to the history of the Los Angeles Galaxy and Major League Soccer took place. Previously mentioned, head coach Greg Vanney appeared in his 400th MLS game as either a player or coach.

One of his players, defender John Nelson, also had a milestone on Saturday. He played in his 100th career MLS game.

How did Nelson get to play in 100 MLS games?

The Medina, Ohio native made his debut to MLS with FC Dallas. After three seasons, he then went on to play for FC Cincinnati.

In 2023, Nelson was a member of St. Louis City SC before joining the Los Angeles Galaxy last season.

So far in his second season with the six-time MLS Cup winners, Nelson has started in five games and subbed in another this year.

The 26-year-old made his first goal in his MLS career during the postseason last year. He also added a pair of assists during the playoff run that saw the LA Galaxy win the 2024 MLS Cup.

While this season has not gone in favor of the Galaxy, Nelson is still a valued and respected member of the team. He has many starts this season as he did all of last year for the Galaxy.

Nelson is in the second season of his two-year deal with the LA Galaxy. It remains to be seen how the rest of 2025 goes for the defending champions.

One thing is for certain: this former North Carolina Tar Heel has the chance to make more history with the Los Angeles Galaxy. Their next game is this Saturday at home against the Portland Timbers.
