Honorable Mention: LA Galaxy lose 1-0 to a team that never shot the ball.
Sporting Kansas City, just like St. Louis, is down there in the MLS Western Conference standings with the Los Angeles Galaxy. Yet, a 1-0 loss on the road set up the LA Galaxy for worse games to come.
Maya Yoshida, the LA Galaxy's captain, had an own goal in the 13th minute of play. Sporting KC did not register a shot attempt, or a shot on goal. Defensively, they played a clean game as they committed just one foul.
One save was enough to prevent a tie or win against the Los Angeles Galaxy. For the first time in history, a team went on to win having never taking a shot on goal.
As we know it, this would not be the only time that the Galaxy would be on the wrong side of history this season.
1. LA Galaxy lose 7-0 against the New York Red Bulls
What was supposed to be a rematch of the 2024 MLS Cup Finals looked like a Varsity vs. Freshman exhibition.
Cameron Harper and Dennis Gjengaar of the Red Bulls had two things in common with the LA Galaxy's Miki Yamane. They all three scored a goal in this game and their goals all counted for New York.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Emil Forsberg both scored twice, as well. The LA Galaxy couldn't produce anything on offense.
In this game, they controlled the ball more (53.5% possession time), they had six corner kicks to the Red Bulls' two, and they had 16 shot attempts as a team. But unfortunately,
As if losing 6-0 wasn't going to be bad enough, giving up a seventh goal in one game in stoppage time is embarassing. Having a veteran defender accidentally score on his own goalie makes this, by far, the worst loss of the season (so far).
