History has been made by the Los Angeles Galaxy during Major League Soccer's 30th regular season. Unfortunately, a number of the feats accomplished by the defending champions are not very good.
For instance, the LA Galaxy became the first team to lose a game to a team that failed to take a shot attempt. That's right! A 1-0 own goal doomed an otherwise perfectly solid night defensively for the six-time MLS Cup winners.
The very next game, the LA Galaxy suffered the biggest shutout loss in their franchise history. A 7-0 clobbering by the New York Red Bulls was only topped by off by a second own-goal in back-to-back games.
These two losses were a part of the 16-game winless streak that the Los Angeles Galaxy were on to open up this season. In their 17th match of the year, they finally won, 2-0, against Real Salt Lake.
All of these could be the reason why that the LA Galaxy do not have an All-Star representative after 29 years in a row (the exception being in 2020 because of Covid).
Who are the best candidates that should be playing in the MLS All-Star Game?
1. Marco Reus
What the man is doing at the age of 36 is incredible. Reus has 12 contributions (five goals, seven assists) in the past two months. From late May until now, the former Borussia Dortmund star has been on a tear.
Being named the LA Galaxy Player of the Month for both May and June certainly helps his case, too. Ever since his debut last year, Reus has found a way to be involved with the offense. In his first match with the LA Galaxy, the German footballer had a goal and an assist against Atlanta United last July.
The 2025 MLS All-Star roster already features nine midfielders with five of them hailing from Western Conference teams. Sebastian Berhalter and Diego Luna were not only voted in but they both represent the United States Men's National Team, too.
2. Christian Ramirez
If were going by the number of Player of the Month Awards by the LA Galaxy, this newcomer set the standard. Former Columbus Crew forward Christian Ramirez won that honor in March and April.
While he has been relegated to the bench since May, he was on pace to score more than 10 goals this season. Ramirez had a streak of scoring in three consecutive game during March.
At the end of April against the Portland Timbers, the 34-year-old had a goal and an assist in the 4-2 loss that game. Ramirez has been an MLS All-Star before.
He was selected to the All-Star Team in 2018 as a member of Minnesota United. Interestingly enough, Ramirez was also the first player to ever score a goal for them.
3. Gabriel Pec
The reason why the Brazilian forward's performance is down this year is due to a number of minor injuries. All of which have affected his time on the field for the LA Galaxy.
Not only was Pec the 2024 Newcomer of the Year last season, he earned his first-ever MLS All-Star selection that same year.
Despite only having five goals on the season now, Pec has had a pair of games in which he scored two goals. Both contests resulted in a 3-3 draw against an MLS Western Conference foe.
While Pec, Reus, Ramirez and the rest of the LA Galaxy will be watching the MLS All-Star Game from home, they can rest up before they play another team without any All-Star selections, the Houston Dynamo. The two teams square off this Friday.
