If Premier League fans are expecting two well-known faces in LA to be playing on loan in the Premier League, they will be in for sheer disappointment. That’s because this week, Los Angeles Galaxy manager Bruce Arena announced that Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan would not be available for loan.
“They’ve had a full 11 months of play and need some time off, then need to get back to LA,” Arena told BBC News. “Our players have had a really tough run this year, in particular Robbie and [defender] Omar [Gonzalez] with all their requirements with national teams.”
“They need to get back here to LA and be ready for a challenging campaign that includes in the beginning not only the league but the [CONCACAF] Champions League.”
Keane signed to a new two-year agreement which will most likely end his football career in a Galaxy uniform. He and Gonzalez were named to the MLS Best XI for their work in steering the ship for the Galaxy, whose season ended in the 2013 MLS Western Conference semifinals against Real Salt Lake. Yesterday, the 2013 MLS State of the League was broadcast. Check it out here on the View from Avalon. Here is the MLS Best XI list.
