Portland Timbers vs. Real Salt Lake: Player Ratings

Well, this was no surprise, save for the scoreline in the second leg of the 2013 MLS Western Conference Final. Jason Kreis’s Real Salt Lake are returning to the MLS Cup Final after shutting out Caleb Porter’s Portland Timbers, 1-0, at JELD-WEN Field in Portland, Ore. to win on aggregate 5-3. RSL take on Sporting Kansas City at Sporting Park on Dec. 7.

A deduction for giving up a goal to Robbie Findley, but he did make two saves and four collections.

11 clearances, six tackles won and eight recoveries, but Kah gets a deduction for poor passing (55 percent on 31 touches) and a yellow card.

Futty Danso 3.5

Seven clearances, six recoveries, seven headers and a 75 percent pass success rate. Poor shift all around. No improvements from the last match.

Michael Harrington 4

Only three interceptions and four recoveries, but a 76 percent pass success rate on 74 touches.

Jack Jewsbury 3

Will Johnson 4

A brave performance despite a losing effort. Eight recoveries, two key passes, a 25 percent cross success rate and a 57 percent pass succcess rate.

Diego Chara 5

Six tackles won, eight recoveries, four interceptions and a 77 percent pass success rate on 48 touches.

Diego Valeri 4

Four recoveries, a 20 percent cross success rate and a 64 percent pass success rate. Valeri was off, off, off on a night where he couldn’t afford to be.

Darlington Nagbe 6

Best player on the pitch for the Timbers. 10 recoveries, four key passes and a 72 percent pass success rate despite two unsuccessful flick ons and four unsuccessful crosses.

Maxi Urruti 2.5

Could only do so much to help the Timbers, with two tackles won, a recovery and one shot on and off target each.

Frederic Piquionne 1

Worst player on the pitch. Had to be subbed early due to ineffectiveness in the first half.

Rodney Wallace 3

61 percent pass success rate on 18 touches, two clearances and two recoveries.

Kalif Alhassan 3

Didn’t do much to argue his case, although he did have a 77 percent pass success rate on 22 touches.

Ryan Johnson NR

Came into the game late, no rating given.
Real Salt Lake

Nick Rimando 6

Two saves, a catch, a punch and a drop. Rimando did well to earn the shutout but will need to come up big on the first Saturday of December.

Chris Schuler 6.5

No goal-scoring heroics for Chris Schuler this time, but he did make 15 clearances and three recoveries in the back. Earns a deduction for a yellow card.

Nat Borchers 6

18 clearances, three blocked crosses and three recoveries. Great sweeping work from Nat Borchers, but he does get a deduction for poor passing and conceded corners.

Tony Beltran 6

Three clearances, three blocked crosses, eight recoveries and five tackles won. Like Borchers, Tony Beltran gets a deduction for poor passes and conceded corners.

Lovel Palmer 5.5

Five clearances and a 55 percent pass success rate. Earns a deduction for a yellow.

Luis Gil 6.5

Nine recoveries, four interceptions, and a 64 percent pass success rate.

Kyle Beckerman 7

A 77 percent pass success rate, five recoveries, four clearances and four headers for Kyle Beckerman.

Javier Morales 8

Ned Grabavoy 7

Four tackles won, four recoveries, and a 91 percent pass success rate on 22 touches.

Devon Sandoval 6.5

Six recoveries, a defender block, three headers and a 74 percent pass success rate on 23 touches. Devon Sandoval does get a deduction for a yellow card from time wasting.

Robbie Findley 9

Man of the match for the goal that became the final nail in the coffin for the Portland Timbers.

Kenny Mansally 5

Mansally came in relief of Lovel Palmer and had four tackles won, five clearances, three recoveries and a 65 percent pass success rate on 23 touches.
