Here are the player ratings for Real Salt Lake and the Portland Timbers.

Real Salt Lake:

Nick Rimando 6

Did allow a couple of goals but otherwise fared better than his counterpart, Donovan Ricketts.

Tony Beltran 6.5

Five clearances, four recoveries, three interceptions and a 72 percent pass success rate.

Nat Borchers 7

A clearance machine with 17 clearances to go with four recoveries and an 82 percent pass success rate.

Lovel Palmer 6

Filled in for Chris Wingert. Earned six clearances, three recoveries and a 79 percent pass success rate on 28 touches.

Chris Schuler 7.5

Real Salt Lake’s Mr. November strikes again. 13 clearances, five recoveries, an 89 percent pass success rate on 18 touches and an equalizer in the 35th minute. The piano carrier is carrying that weight.

Chris Wingert 5

An average game from Wingert marred by broken ribs that will force Lovel Palmer into the mix in the second leg at JELD-WEN Field.

Javier Morales 9

Man of the match. A goal and two assists, despite a 67 percent pass success rate and a 60 percent cross success rate will elicit high scores. This is a player that wants another star about RSL’s crest. He’s a third of the way there right now.

Kyle Beckerman 7.5

12 recoveries, six clearances, a defender block, two tackles won and a 70 percent pass success rate. Good shift from the RSL captain.

Luis Gil 5

Off day for Luis Gil, with three recoveries, two unsuccessful crosses and a 67 percent pass success rate to show for it.

Sebastian Velasquez 6.5

Seven recoveries and an 88 percent pass success rate on 41 touches. Just couldn’t get the finish down.

Devon Sandoval 8

A goal in the 48th minute combined with four recoveries and a 74 percent pass success rate equals a solid grade for Sandoval, who filled in for Alvaro Saborio quite nicely.

Robbie Findley 8.5

The best game from Robbie Findley in a whil;e, with a goal, an assist, and a 77 percent pass success rate on 13 touches.

Joao Plata 5.5

Brought in to provide an offensive spark but didn’t do much to help add to Real Salt Lake’s advantage, aside from an assist in the 82nd minute of play.

Ned Grabavoy NR

Came into the game late, no rating given.
Portland Timbers:

Donovan Ricketts 3

Four saves, but the Big Cat from Montego Bay can only do so much.

Pa Modou Kah 4

12 clearances, five recoveries and a diabolical 57 percent pass success rate.

Goat of the match. Responsible for leaking three of Real Salt Lake’s goals and despite 10 clearances and six recoveries, he was suffering from a case of stage fright. Ill-advised time to suffer from it, too.

Michael Harrington 3

Three interceptions, three clearances, four recoveries and a 64 percent pass success rate.

Jack Jewsbury 2

Four clearances, three recoveries and a 59 percent pass success rate.

Diego Valeri 4

Two clearances, four recoveries, and an 84 percent pass success rate on 19 touches.

Diego Chara 4.5

Seven recoveries, two interceptions, three tackles won and a 78 percent pass success rate on 34 touches.

Will Johnson 5

Was responsible for scoring the opener and a putting in a decent shift, with three tackles won, two recoveries and a 64 percent pass success rate on 44 touches.

Ryan Johnson 2

I did call for Ryan Johnson to get shut down by Real Salt Lake, and he was. No goals, no assists, and a 54 percent pass success rate on 13 touches.

Darlington Nagbe 4.5

Six recoveries, eight headers, two key passes and an 82 percent pass success rate.

Rodney Wallace 3.5

Five recoveries, a 57 percent pass success rate and six unsuccessful crosses.

Kalif Alhassan 4

Didn’t do much to change to contest but did enough to earn an 84 percent pass success rate.

Jose Valencia 3.5

Four recoveries and a 42 percent pass success rate on 12 touches. Not gonna work.

Frederic Piquionne 5

Gets a bonus for scoring, but it arrived too little, too late.
