We are at halftime of this 2013 MLS Western Conference Semifinal between Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy and Jason Kreis’s Real Salt Lake. The Galaxy have a 1-0 advantage but it would have been more if Los Angeles actually made an effort to get more inside the back of the net. Seriously. This is still anyone’s series.
Here are the player ratings for this first leg of the Western Conference Semifinals between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Real Salt Lake.
Jaime Penedo 7
Only two saves, but he made a bevy of collections to go with it. Needs to be a bit more smarter when distributing the ball.
Sean Franklin 8.5
Man of the Match. What a rocket. That’s going to get the ol’ heart pumpin’ for Thursday. Franklin also made nine recoveries, three clearances and won four tackles to go with a 65 percent pass success rate, which he gets a deduction for.
Todd Dunivant 7
Nine recoveries, a 33 percent cross success rate and a 76 percent pass success rate. Just another night at the office for the Iron Man from Colorado.
Kofi Opare 6.5
A passable performance, with four clearances, four recoveries and an 85 percent pass success rate. Opare will need to be a bit more smarter with his passing and be a bit more sharp to get a higher score on Thursday in Sandy, Utah.
Omar Gonzalez 8
Just your average performance from Omar Gonzalez: 10 clearances, 12 recoveries and a 78 percent pass success rate on 45 touches.
Gyasi Zardes 7
Good performance from Zardes, with eight recoveries, three tackles won and a 66 percent pass success rate. Handled Tony Beltran with ease and composure. Zardes will need to work on his crosses because they are awash with predictability.
10 recoveries, four interceptions and an 82 percent pass success rate. Needs to be a bit more quicker and less complacent when applying pressure with Marcelo Sarvas.
Marcelo Sarvas 7
10 recoveries, two interceptions and an 82 percent pass success rate. Unlike Juninho, Sarvas was hustling for the ball and that deserves a bit of a bonus.
Landon Donovan 5
Where was the finishing touch from Landon Donovan? Nowhere! Okay, so he has seven recoveries, five key passes and a 60 percent flick on success rate. But he also has a 33 percent cross success rate and a 65 percent pass success rate. This was clearly an off night for LD, and you can’t have those in the postseason, and he knows that.
Robbie Keane 6
More in the next piece.
Hector Jimenez 4.5
50 percent pass success rate, two recoveries, an interception and a clearance. Brought in to relieve Robbie Rogers.
Rafael Garcia 3.5
Earns a deduction for a yellow card just seconds into his shift.
A.J. DeLaGarza NR
Came into the game late, no rating given.
