Giovanni Savarese’s New York Cosmos had qualified for Soccer Bowl 2013 and were looking to finish the 2013 North Amercan Soccer League Fall season in style. A goal from Henry Lopez in the 34th minute gave the Cosmos a 1-0 victory over their opponents in next week’s Soccer Bowl, the Atlanta Silverbacks.

“The good thing was that we kept the lead,” said Cosmos assistant coach Carlos Llamosa to NASL.com’s Dylan Butler. “For us, we count one game at a time and it is a good way to finish the fall season this way, winning away against the spring champions.

“Every game is important and now the game is over we have to start on Monday to prepare for the next game.”

“We had our chances, three clear cut chances, to score and we didn’t put them away,” said Silverbacks coach Brian Haynes. “They had one shot on goal and it was a cross that made its way to where it was meant to.

“But I can’t fault the effort tonight and there is nothing that is going to concern me for next week.”

Next week will be for all the marbles as the New York Cosmos and Atlanta Silverbacks clash in Soccer Bowl 2013 at Silverbacks Park in Atlanta, Ga. on Nov. 9. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised by ESPN 3 and ESPN Deportes.
