Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Seattle Sounders: 10 Bold Predictions

Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy, coming off a lopsided 4-0 defeat to Isidro Metapan in CONCACAF Champions League play, are on the verge of seeing October crumble to pieces before them when they take on the Seattle Sounders on Sunday, Oct. 27. The Galaxy and Sounders have already qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs and are essentially playing for seeding purposes.

A victory for the Galaxy will most likely set up a conference semifinal date with Real Salt Lake, unless the Portland Timbers falter against Chivas USA. Kickoff at CenturyLink Field is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET and will be televised by ESPN and ESPN Deportes. Here are 10 Bold Predictions for the Oct. 27 match between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Seattle Sounders.

1. At least 35 fouls and three yellows

Let’s get the fouls and cards out of the way first. At least 35 fould will be whistles and at least three yellow cards will be issued by the referee by the end of the contest.

This is the time in the season where Clint Dempsey will finally get one through for Seattle. What better way to have it done than on Fan Appreciation Night for the Sounders faithful?

3. Landon Donovan will not start for the Galaxy

Turf happens to be bad for Landon Donovan’s gimpy ankle, and it doesn’t look like Donovan will risk getting his injury aggravated. The goal-scoring record will have to wait until next year.

4. Here comes Obafemi Martins

This season, Obafemi Martins hass eight goals to his credit, and he will gain one more to make it nine goals on Sunday against the Los Angeles Galaxy.

5. No goals from Eddie Johnson

Eddie Johnson, the cocky yet brash forward that he is, will not get on the scoresheet. The View from Avalon is predicting no goals from Johnson on the night.

6. Mauro Rosales with two assists

The View from Avalon is calling for two assists from Mauro Rosales, Seattle’s top playmaker. Rosales has eight assists on the year, is capable of hitting double figures and will do so.

7. Robbie Keane with a brace

This season, Robbie Keane had 15 goals for the year and is looking to earn MLS First XI honors. Keane will look for some solid through balls from Gyasi Zardes and Marcelo Sarvas to give the Galaxy some life.

8. No goals from Gyasi Zardes

As for the aformentioned Zardes, he will not earn a goal on the night, but he will get at least one assist. Zardes’s playmaking ability has made him one of the top rookies for the Los Angeles Galaxy this season, and he will be counted on again.

9. Jaime Penedo with at least six saves

Los Angeles Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo has been the center of attention this season. His dominating performance against San Jose has thrust him into the limelight, but Penedo will be tested against a Seattle side that wants to break its losing streak. Jaime Penedo will make at least six saves for LA.

10. This match…will end in a draw

Pending the result from this week’s match between Colorado and Vancouver at B.C. Place Stadium in Vancouver, B.C., the Galaxy and Sounders will play to a draw. Los Angeles should earn at least the No. 3 seed unless Colorado go all out and win their match, at which both sides play one more game at the StubHub Center.
